Does anyone else think that there is far too much petty bickering on GN

If you read the threads there is quite a bit of banter between members, I am sooo dissapointed at this because at our age we really should know better. It makes me feel un comfortable and I have actually been at the other end of such goings on. Really not sure what response I am going to get with this thread but can not help but be honest.

Weird! Don't know what happened there....confused

Funny, this is a 15 pages thread, the majority about fonts confused Is it a case of fingers in the ears and everyone sing la la la? I'm sad that I haven't seen Jodi after this exchange.

Maybe the thing is that various GN members actually meet up and therefore share a different level of friendship. I've been here a couple of months and, trust me, it does feel like a clique: we joined first, we own it sort of thing. The fact that there are, and have been members raising the same concerns - the fact that when you read an old thread, those people have disappeared, should concern members. This is a commercial social media site and, therefore relies on membership and without growth will not be viable. It costs a lot of money for servers. You could kill the goose.

So, maybe if people do raise a question which probably has been raised before and therefore of no interest to the old guard - be quiet and let it run.

There seems to be little tolerance for anyone outside of the norm..and, by norm, I mean left wing and judgemental and, dare I say anachronistic in their views?

I do temper that observation with another - the support given to people is almost moving at times and if I had a problem, to be able to throw it out to a peer group, should I choose, would be valuable. Equally, I wouldn't feel comfortable talking about my life, I'd feel it was contentious an outside the norm.

It's also quite funny, for the first time using a computer, I have felt the need for a dictionary! (Note to Gransnet...spellcheck, not expensive!)

gonna test that now ♥ YaY

nanapug Wed 19-Dec-12 19:47:16

Sel I haven't been here since the beginning but can't say I have felt excluded at all. Yes there are some people who seem to know each other better than others but isn't that the same with any group?

I would agree that some threads do tend to lean to the left, I'm centre right myself, but I have never felt they were judgemental of me or my views.

I do hope you will stay and continue to post smile

3...still not working confused....

annodomini Wed 19-Dec-12 21:06:26

The spellcheck works perfectly well on my laptop, Sel.

Nelliemoser Wed 19-Dec-12 21:13:12

I want to do stars and things as well! Can someone write a manual. envy

whenim64 Wed 19-Dec-12 21:23:17

JINGLE!!!...Nelliemoser has a very important job for you! grin

Nelliemoser Wed 19-Dec-12 21:29:16

JO5 Please can you do me a manual. When you have finished the mincepies. Making them that is! Not eating them.
Pretty please!

Sel Wed 19-Dec-12 21:33:59

Barrow thank you ...anno spellcheck - how? If I type in 'add your message here' there's no spellcheck option. Are you C & Ping? I'm a well educated woman, this is ridiculous!! What has GN done to me ?? grin

annodomini Wed 19-Dec-12 21:37:03

It may be that it's because I'm using Google Chrome. It's just always been there.

annodomini Wed 19-Dec-12 21:42:16

Just checked - the last time the subject of spell checkers came up, the tech answer was that some browsers, like Chrome and Firefox have an inbuilt checker.

gracesmum Wed 19-Dec-12 21:43:46

Who needs spellcheckers? I think Anno, Gally, Elegran. Bags, Em and some others who shall remain nameless enjoyed the benefit of a Scottish educationgrin
