I just posted on teeth and was then surprised when going back to the active list that my name came up on the thread for Sister Wendy Beckett.

How on earth did we get on to teeth? I thought it was a teeth thread.

My 14 year old GS has just had a brace fitted. It was touch and go if he warranted such treatment on the NHS or not. Turns out he did otherwise the cost would have been several thousands of pounds.

When I was a child it was suggested by my dentist that I had a brace because my front teeth stuck out like a rabbit's. My mother said, rather impatiently I thought, well do you want a brace or not? I said not and that was that.

I can't say the teeth have had that much of a negative effect on my life. Can speak and eat fairly well and managed to get a few boyfriends in my time.

But standards for teeth may be getting higher, following in the footsteps of the United States who are teeth obsessed.

Wow, I live and learn. Have things changed? My first daughter had her orthodontic treatment on the NHS, other daughter and son, I had to pay. Given that they do seem to be endemic, are they now on the NHS or do they preclude cosmetic reasons?

My GC aren't yet of an age to need them.

I do remember myself suffering with a brace and my Mum telling me 'you'll thank me when you're older' True, but they are horrible; coloured, jewelled or with feathers on - they hurt!

Braces are now definitely a fashion statement.My GD has pink ones and her friends are envious.

I wouldn't dare - she is too likely to take me up on it!

How about suggesting she has red in one half and green in the other!

Her first brace had blue stones - her latest has red!

The mind boggles!

Barrow coloured stones? Sounds a bit Jaws like - the Bond baddie not the big fish. Clever orthodontists, making braces a fashion statement.

My great niece (gosh that makes me feel old!) has coloured stones fixed in her braces - I can remember when everyone tried to hide the fact they had to wear them - now they are a fashion statement

mishap one of DGSs friends has coloured braces on her teeth it took a lot of getting used to but she says as long as she likes them she's not worried what others think and she will have the last laugh when she has perfectly straight teeth,that was me put in my place I think when I commented on them,I only said they where so different from what eldest DGS had had when he had to have braces.

But thousands of pre-teens are running about with ironmongery in their mouths - it has almost become a fashion statement!

You can date tv programmes by peoples teeth, I find. No one, but no one has wonky teeth any more.

I'll bet there's no mirror in that caravan.
