What not to wear !

Beige, beige, beige - mostly because I am beige so disappear. Whenever I go to look for a new coat DH tries to make me have one with a hood which I think is really old ladyish unless it is a cagoule type thing.

I agree about hoods, kitty - I try to avoid them if possible unless the coat has been bought specifically for foul weather! They never look smart hanging bunchily down the back...

I don't know why but I like the word bunchily.

Nah - the sort of opposite would I suppose be something like 'daintily' or 'elegantly' - both with only one 'l', you will note, petallus! [pedantic emoticon]

Having said that they are old ladyish, hoods actually remind me of being back at school!!

Incidentally, noticed there is a word 'dantihood' which means, a dainty hood.

Maybe some hoods are daintier than others!

I think they are. Those padded ones with furry trims are the worst!

I had a 'beige' wake-up call a couple of years ago. Was looking for a walking fleece - decent quality and in a colour that would not show up the ginger tom's hair. Rejected Navy and black and the only colour left in the style I liked seemed highly appropriate and I was happy to buy it. A couple of days later was zipping it up and daughter yelled....'Mum it's beige'! It quickly became my 'gardening' jacket and as soon as was decently possible I bought another.....a nice rich shade of plum! I think that we just sometimes dont realise we are turning beige and it takes a concerted effort to avoid it especially when buying useful, rather than fashion, garments.

You could always refer to it as taupe.

I bought a beige coat from M & S last year.

I have had compliments on it and when I look in the mirror I think it looks quite good.

However, for some reason whenever I put it on I feel old and dull.

Perhaps it is because it is beige.

I am building up to giving it to a charity shop.

Life is too short to wear clothes which make you feel bad.

I've just bought a beige skirt. Well it calls itself camel, but worn with a chestnut coloured top and amber jewellery looks good!

I see several being worn by pensioners each time I visit Asda, they depict all sorts of animals such as wolves and horses -they are so unflattering although probably warm.Sorry to offend any GNetters who own them - anyone want to own up to possessing one?

I agree, shysal! And as for beige, well, I feel I look drab and dull. But I have an old, inherited Burberry and it is sort of putty coloured but I feel good in it. Maybe because it's a good make?

Why is it taupe or camel on anybody else but beige on me? I love camel, I think it can look very classy - think Grace Kelly...............and then gm think again

I once looked in the mirror in the ladies' room at a local restaurant and saw nothing but grey. My hair at the time hadn't quite reached the silver stage and I was wearing a matching salt and pepper roll-neck jumper. Gave it to the charity shop the next day. No more grey jumpers for me.

I tend to like fairly bright colours, usually avoid browns and beiges, although I do have a darkish beige fleece that (I think) looks quite nice. I do like coats with hoods though, especially in windy weather, I`m not one of those lucky people whose hair just drops back into place, a hood stops me looking like a haystack gone mad!

I've always wanted a cloak with a hood, so that I could look like The French Lieutenant's Woman!
No chance

I bought a red white and black cloak in Tallin. It's lovely and Christmassy. It also has a hood and is much easier to use with crutches than a coat.
