I have just checked an item that I ordered on Amazon, and apparently it was delivered yesterday, which is great.

Except that it was signed for by somebody called Simmons who live in Newton Abbott.

Which is about an hour away from here! How on earth could the courier get an address* that* wrong, and why on earth didn't the person who received it say something!

I am very very very *VERY angry

It was Mr P's main present, and unless I get a replacement delivered in time, it renders 2 of his other presents useless!

Ring Amazon. Tell them they've got to send out another one.

Movedalot Wed 19-Dec-12 12:47:08

Ouch. Are they promising to rectify?

jO5 Wed 19-Dec-12 12:48:47

today is their last day to order for Xmas.

Anne58 Wed 19-Dec-12 12:51:08

I spoke to Amazon before I posted, they have said they will send a replacement by first class. They also said I would get an email to confirm, but it hasn't come yet. Bugger bugger and thrice bugger.

Give it a while and then contact them again to make sure they are handling it. It should get there in time.

Phoenix A similar thing happened to me last year. Amazon were actually very understanding and sympathetic and promised to send a replacement by courier on a guaranteed delivery which they did so all is not lost yet. Fingers crossed for you. There are still 5 days until Christmas!

phoenix I'm signing for things every day at the moment (usually for things bought by others in the house) and I never check whose name is on the parcel until after closing the front door - and even then I sometimes don't bother to check unless I'm expecting a delivery. Is it worth just making a phone call to the Simmons' in the phone book (there are only five in Newton Abbot)and asking if they've got your parcel? If so the courier firm can go and jolly well get it back for you.

grannyactivist Wed 19-Dec-12 12:57:29

Was it a Yodel delivery by any chance?

Anne58 Wed 19-Dec-12 12:58:03

I know it's not the end of the world, but Mr P is coming home tomorrow, and I really wanted it delivered when he wasn't here, otherwise I think he will guess what it is.

CHEELU Wed 19-Dec-12 13:30:00

Phoenix if you get onto Amazon they should sort it out, let them know its a Christmas present, try to appeal to their good side and if the person that picks up call is not helpful hang up and try another person, they really should put this right..If he is there could you say that it is for someone else Or when you speak to Amazon ask them to deliver to a friend or neighbor....

I am going to be on tenterhooks tomorrow because my microwave blew up the other day and I have ordered a new one from Amazon. It was £40 cheaper than the same model at Argos and the delivery is free (Amazon Prime). Amazon won't be able to let me know until this evening which courier they are using so.....if it's Parcelforce I know I have very little chance of seeing this microwave until after Christmas as they refuse to come down the farm road and it takes days to locate where they've dumped our orders. angry.

Hello all, back from another trip to the shops!

Yes, it was Yodel grannya ! I suppose I could try phoning the Simmons if there are only 5 of them, but even if one of them did admit to signing for it, I would have to go through Amazon to get it collected etc and that could just cause more confusion.

I have now had an email saying it will be sorted, they have upgraded to first class delivery at no cost to me. Have also just looked on the "my orders" section and it is showing on there. I really hope it comes tomorrow, but I think it is more likely to be Friday.

merlot fingers crossed for you, although inm this household they are known as Parcelfarce!

Do you think it's too early to quality test the sherry?

kittylester Wed 19-Dec-12 16:16:08

HildaW Wed 19-Dec-12 17:58:58

On the daily 'Watchdog' programme that was on a couple of weeks ago they confirmed that if something is sent to us but the carrier messes up..its for the company who sell us the goods to sort it out. Its really not our problem- just a bit inconvenient.
