Evening all,

My neighbour has just dropped round a parcel.

From Amazon.

It's the item that (according to the order tracker info) was signed for by some people called Simmons.

In Newton Abbott.

Now what do I do???

That'll be easy in and easy out then won't it? (the lager)

Anne58 Thu 20-Dec-12 09:39:14

grin It will be taking up a temporary residence in the fridge at some point.

jO5 Thu 20-Dec-12 09:41:08

Oh right. grin

Similar thing happened to me - the parcel was left outside my neighbours house and she didn't spot it for several days by which time Amazon had said they would send a replacement. I contacted Amazon who said when the courier arrived with the replacement just tell him I had received the original and he then would take it back.

There you are then, phoenix - you'll just have to stay in all day and wait....grin

Actually, apart from going to collect the newspapaer, I was planning to be in anyway! However, according to another email, one will be delivered tomorrow, and I will be going out at some point, as on my "to do" list for Friday it says collect prescription, and then Mr P has written something that looks like "NB Potty Liners"

phoenix I need a new coffee maker grin

My lovely situation with Hotel Chocolate meant I could keep the broken choc, perhaps Amazon will let you keep the machine. If that is the case where do you live and we will all be round for coffee and mine pies? smile

Oh and I read your post as "I will be taking up a temporary residence in the fridge at some point" grin grin Christmas is definitely getting to me - but in a good way

Anne58 Thu 20-Dec-12 10:28:04

Moved I very often mis-read posts too! You would all be very welcome to come for coffee and mince pies, (I just typed "mice" good thing I noticed!) and I have a new bottle of Amaretto to hand, a glug of that in coffee is delish, but I fear that darkest Devon might be too far for many just to enjoy some seasonal comestibles! grin

Be careful. A friend has warned me of a scam doing the rounds. An item gets dropped off at your house by a reputable well known firm such as Amazon. You sign and take it in either because you're expecting a delivery or at this time of year you think it's a gift. A while later another delivery driver rolls up and says the parcel has been delivered to the wrong address so you hand the item back as this seems like an explanation.

The scam is that your address and bank details have been used for the purchase by the con artists and the first delivery was genuine and you have signed for it But you have now handed it over to the con artists.

Ana Thu 20-Dec-12 10:41:31

But wouldn't your name and address be on the label, if your details have been used to purchase the item? confused So you wouldn't hand it over because it's not been delivered to the wrong address....

Thanks Nanado , but I think this situation is genuine! I have a paper trail of emails from Amazon, and the articles are showing on my order page. I'm hoping that I will be in when the delivery comes, as Amazon have emailed me to say I can refuse it, but if it does end up in my posession, I can print a return label and take to the village shop who do collections. (I had to return an item the other week as it was faulty, and had no problem at all)

Nanado Thu 20-Dec-12 11:23:35

Good point. I think Ana that you have the option to have separate payment details and delivery ones. So your name and address might be on the payment details but another name with your address on the delivery ones.

Not actually sure as this was passed on to me second hand but just a warning in case. It was suggested that you open the parcel and if you've not ordered it then you contact the seller.

You can specify a different address for an amazon parcel to go to. I often send things straight to DD and family - saves repacking and double postage.

They store all the extra addresses you give, so you can slect any of them in the future.

Nelliemoser Thu 20-Dec-12 21:51:02

My DD has just told me that a parcel arrived at her home address this a/m, but was addressed to her MIL. It seems that her DH had intended it to to get sent to his mum who lives nearby, but put his own address on it OOPs!
She is not allowed to have it until Christmas though!

I can't believe it. My microwave turned up on time without any hassle or angry phone calls to the couriers. Now I've just got to work out how to use all the fancy touch screen thingies. In the olden days we had proper instruction books. Now you just get a bit of paper with a bit of information that nobody can understand. confused

Card today in my postbox at the end of our lane said:
Parcel under green tarpaulin to the left of the post box???It didn't exist. Then realised that the neighbour's caravan in the next field was covered with a green tarpaulin.Waited til it got a bit dark (neighbours from hell) to climb over the fence and rummage under the tarpaulin but couldn't find anything.Gave up and got in the car but as I drove off and the tarpaulin was flapping in the wind,I spotted the parcel on the roof of the caravan but far too high for me to reach it!!Will have to wait til OH comes home tomorrow.Glad I didn't meet that delivery man,he thinks in a strange way, why didn't he mention the caravan?confused

Well, my plot thickens! Saw A Yodel van just outside, was waiting for a knock on the door. Nothing.

I then went out to the van, saw the driver standing outside number 5, (we are number 6) Said "can I help you?" He said that he was trying to speak to number 5 re. a parcel that he left there. Turns out it was the one that should have come to me, but showed on the parcel tracking thing as being delivered to someone called Simmons in Newton Abbott! Very apologetic van driver, I bet his boss gave him mega grief! I expect that there was a lot of competition to get the contract for Amazon deliveries, and Yodel are "not at home to MR Cock-Up" !

Grannylin Thu 20-Dec-12 23:11:24

Mine was Yodel and I'm in Devon, plot definitely thickening!

Anne58 Thu 20-Dec-12 23:17:09

It sort of gets worse, but not in a plot thickening way!

See new thread!
