The Coffee Machine Thing gets Worse!

Evening all,

I appreciate that I had a bit of a rant by starting the "Robbing expletive" thread, and then started yet another one that was a sort of up-date on the Amazon/Simmons in Newton Abbott/my neighbour had it, and it was the Yodel delivery numpty that messed up, for heavens sake, too complicated to go into now, the salient point are on other threads. (exaseparted icon)

Aaaaanyway, seems all was sorted, which indeed it was, (slight incident with Yodel van man trying to speak to the people next door, sorted now, I'm sure once the pain wears off he will understand)

However, a conversation with my beloved Mr P, who arrived home today for Christmas, made a few alarm bells ring. I did a bit of gentle probing and without going in to too much detail, it would seem that we both had the idea of buying each other a coffee machine for Christmas!

Well, bearing in mind that I may well have 2 more on the way from Amazon, plus the one that is already wrapped and hidden in the wardrobe, not even counting the one that Mr P has bought and is currently residing in his van, I suppose you couldn say that my demitasse runneth over!

There was a slight contretemps with regard as to which one should be sent back. This became a tad embarrasing, as the one I bought was £20, but did all that I thought we needed, and it had very good reviews. The one that Mr P bought was £90 !!!!!

Still, I suppose that it does show that we are sort of on the same wavelength!

blush But thank you!

I was just going to say what Sel has already said, that phoenix's talents should spread further than granset [I don't mean that in a nasty way blush]. I don't go on all that many forums but, of those that I do frequent there is usually someone whose posts are always looked forward to and put a smile on the face on the bleakest of days, and I often think they should be making vast amounts of money for their talent. phoenix is one of those creatures smile. Most chucklesome in a lovely way.

Phoenix it's such fun reading your coffee-machine trials and tribulations!

I'm sticking with my trusty Nespresso, even though it came sans George grin

Movedalot Sat 22-Dec-12 11:54:37

Thanks *phoenix, it looks just the job. We already have one with bells and whistles but only use it for filter and it is far too big, I would prefer more worksurface.

He probably enjoys a bit of high dudgeon so let him get on with it until he has something worse to think about grin

jO5 Sat 22-Dec-12 11:54:13

Oh. Yours sounds really good. You'd get a decent cup of coffee from that. (I might get one of those)

Yes. It sound like high dudgeon! shock (No-one's to blame though) smile

Y0u could use y0urs in the week when/if it's just y0u, and he could "drive" his at the weekends.

Don't know which one is currently languishing in Mr P's van, but it was from Sainsburys (our previous one was from there too) and is black and silver and has buttons. I have asked him to show me on the website, but he said "There's no point now, is there?"

I'm detecting just a tad of "high dudgeon", but could be wrong. grin

This one

www.amazon.co.uk/Russell-Hobbs-15215-Coffee-Maker/dp/B003DNSQRU/ref=sr_1_2?s=kitchen&ie=UTF8&qid=1356173084&sr=1-2

Generally we only have "proper" coffee on Sunday mornings. I didn't see the point in getting one with a programmable timer etc, just wanted something to make a decent cup of filter coffee and keep it hot!

(Also needed to be pretty cheap, as with me not currently earning, it didn't seem right to spend too much!)

Movedalot Sat 22-Dec-12 10:41:31

Phoenix as you have done all the research can you tell me which is the best one to buy? No point me doing it if you have already done all the work grin

jO5 Sat 22-Dec-12 10:19:47

Ok. Tell us which ones they are. We can look at reviews and judge for you.

(I haven't really got tidying/shopping/wrapping etc etc to do have I?) grin

Anne58 Sat 22-Dec-12 09:37:49

Hello again, I thought you meant that I should open an actual coffee shop, hence my thoughts on who I wouldn't serve!

Back to the coffee machine/s it is just a filter coffee machine, not pods, no capsule doo dahs. Mr P says that he he bought has got "lots of buttons" , but when questioned further admitted that he didn't really know what they did. grin

It would appear that he went into the shop, looked at the ones whose colour would suit our kitchen, then made his choice.

I, on the other hand, spent a considerable of time checking capacity etc and trawling through pages or reviews!

I'm don't have strong views on ethics. I just love the coffee from my Nespresso.

Movedalot Fri 21-Dec-12 17:36:58

I wouldn't touch a Nespresso machine or anything else made by that company who incidentally own half of L'Oreal and therefore half of Bodyshop.angry Anyone with ethical concerns would feel the same. Sorry Ylil but this is something I feel very stronly about.

Ella46 Fri 21-Dec-12 17:07:33

I would just go with George.......

Ylil Fri 21-Dec-12 17:06:14

I would always go with the Nespresso machine, all the others are cheap imitations IMHO.

Gagagran Fri 21-Dec-12 15:27:15

Bone to pick with you Grannyactivist - you can't be gaga 'cos that's me!grin

Ana Fri 21-Dec-12 15:23:11

You wouldn't need to actually see, hear or smell them, phoenix! You could sell online....wink

Anne58 Fri 21-Dec-12 15:20:40

I'm afraid that I would go out of business in no time, as I would refuse to serve people who didn't say please and thank you!

Also bald middle aged men with pony tails.

And people who sniff.

And anyone with B.O.

jO5 Fri 21-Dec-12 14:55:47

Good idea! Give it a go phoenix! grin

Sel Fri 21-Dec-12 14:41:21

Movedalot I do agree phoenix is gifted, hilarious and should, IMO, be a scriptwriter but I'd like to address the issue which she is skillfully trying to deflect our attention from - she is ordering from Amazon!! Did she not read the thread on taxation? I'm just hoping, given the plethora of coffee machines she may be thinking commercially and planning to take on Starbucks. grin

jO5 Fri 21-Dec-12 13:59:36

No. Look at some nice pics in my Merlin thread. smile

Movedalot Fri 21-Dec-12 12:47:29

I know that jo5 but some of it can be surely? Think I'll go to the grotto. grin

Ana Fri 21-Dec-12 12:29:11

It's (nearly) the title of a book by Meera Syal, as well!

jO5 Fri 21-Dec-12 12:18:31

Life's not all ha ha ha he he he. As had been said somewhere before.

jeni Fri 21-Dec-12 11:56:40

grin on that note I'll leave you til I can find a free wifi cafe!

Movedalot Fri 21-Dec-12 11:23:17

Can we have more entertaining post from everyone please? I prefer these to the grumpy ones! smile

Happy to read the ones where people need help/symapthy but at this time of the year some goodwill and fun is good too. grin
