The Night before Christmas for Moms

It was the night before Christmas, when all thru the abode
Only one creature was stirring, and she was cleaning the commode.
The children were finally sleeping, all snug in their beds,
While visions of Nintendo 64 and Barbie, flipped through their heads.
The dad was snoring in front of the TV,
With a half-constructed bicycle on his knee.
So only the mom heard the reindeer hooves clatter,
Which made her sigh, "Now what's the matter?"

With toilet bowl brush still clutched in her hand,
She descended the stairs, and saw the old man.
He was covered with ashes and soot, which fell with a shrug.
"Oh great," muttered the mom, "Now I have to clean the rug."

"Ho-ho-ho!" cried Santa, "I'm glad you're awake."
"Your gift was especially difficult to make."
"Thanks, Santa, but all I want is some time alone."
"Exactly!" he chuckled, "I've made you a clone."

"A clone?" she asked, "What good is that?
Run along, Santa, I've no time for chit-chat."
The mother's twin. Same hair, same eyes,
Same double chin.

"She'll cook, she'll dust," She'll mop every mess.
You'll relax, take it easy, Watch The Young & the Restless." "Fantastic!" the mom cheered. "My dream come true!
"I'll shop. I'll read., I'll sleep a whole night through! "

From the room above, the youngest began to fret.
"Mommy?! I scared... and I am wet."
The clone replied, "I'm coming, sweetheart."
"Hey," the mom smiled, "She knows her part."

The clone changed the small one, and hummed a tune,
as she bundled the child, in a blanket cocoon.
"You the best mommy ever. " I really love you."
The clone smiled and sighed, "I love you, too."

The mom frowned and said, "Sorry, Santa, no deal. "
That's my child's love, she's trying to steal."
Smiling wisely Santa said, "To me it is clear, "
Only one loving mother, is needed here."

The mom kissed her child, and tucked her into bed.
"Thank you, Santa, for clearing my head.
I sometimes forget, it won't be very long,
When they'll be too old, for my cradle-song."

The clock on the mantle began to chime.
Santa whispered to the clone, "It works every time."
With the clone by his side Santa said, "Goodnight. Merry Christmas, Mom, You'll be all right."

Another version

"Twas the night before Christmas, when all through the house
Not a creature was stirring , not even a mouse,
The stockings were hung by the chimney with care,
In hopes that St Nicholas soon would be there.
The children were nstled all snug in their beds,
While visions of sugar-plums danced in their heads.
And Mamma in her "kerchief, and I in my cap,
Had just settled down for a long winter"s nap.

AND SO ON >

We read the original every Christmas Eve and the book is getting very tatty now but it wouldn't be the same if we replaced it! grin

We always read the original with our girls at bedtime when they were small. Now the eldest is 34 and if any of them are around on Christmas eve we still have to do it. We all shout 'to all a good night'.

ginny it is a family tradition for us and I hope will also carry on for our GCs. Our Christmas traditions seem to be very important to our own children smile

Movedalot. Yes, isn't it lovely to see family traditions passed down. My Grandson has taken on things that I did as a child and which were handed down by my parents. If I ever suggest we could change something, a look of horror passes over their faces. Guess it must mean that I made a good job of things when they were younger.

Movedalot----------I liked it a lot. smile

At least the original scans! Honestly, I'm not trying to be hypercritical, but reading the first one is like listening to someone singing out of tune. But I do like the original poem - it's part of Christmas.

Ana Sat 22-Dec-12 17:44:02

Oh, I do agree, Ariadne - I'm afraid I couldn't read it all, it was so grating to my mind's ear! I didn't dare point it out, though....wink

Ginny , your last post , was again us!

They love all the things we did when they were "nips" even though they have their own families now.

Now we all have the chance to pass things onto GC .

Cannot wait to see them all they will all be here a couple of days . What joy !!!

ana love the idea of the "mind's ear" - exactly what I need when I'm trying to explain to people!

Movedalot Sat 22-Dec-12 18:19:59

But it was supposed to make you laugh! Its not on pedants sad

Ariadne Sat 22-Dec-12 18:50:31

Oh, I didn't mean it to be. It's just... Do you understand about singing out of tune? it's like that for me.

I'll leave it now; I don't usually express a feeling or thought here now unless I feel safe. What a wimp.

Ana Sat 22-Dec-12 18:56:07

Ariadne smile. Movedalot it's just a personal thing - I can see the spoof poem's funny, but its lack of scansion just made it hard to read, for me...

Well I don't know about correct this and that but I did find the bit about the mothers clone very nice. blush confused
