Made some bread, made some lentil soup, sawed, lopped and yanked a couple of dozen rhododendron branches off and shredded them, pulled a muscle in the process, divested self of wet muddy clothing including wool gloves topped by industrial strength rubber gloves, and the other paraphernalia of keeping warm and dry in Scotland in winter, showered, put a wash on, made coffee, sat down with feet up.

"Nufff d-d-day, I fink!" as DD used to say when she was two.

Still have to wash-up and make dinner but I'm slobbing until that cannot be put off any longer.

" light snow this morning, very desultory, as if it really didn't want to land, and the sky above kept on getting bluer, yet still the little snowflakes wandered down. "

Yes. That is lovely. Haaaaaah.... smile

Have had a good day and have spent..well..hardly anything. Not in the shops, anyway. Have been tinkering about online, though!

Marelli Tue 15-Jan-13 17:48:16

What did you buy, Grannylin? grin

Grannylin Tue 15-Jan-13 17:43:22

Pleased you had a nice afternoon Gally and Marelli.Love and hugs to mr and mrs soop.
I've spent far too much money today blush

Marelli Tue 15-Jan-13 16:44:09

Hope Mr soop will soon be feeling much, much better, soop. I hadn't caught up with this thread until just now, so I didn't know he'd been ill. Gally told me about it at lunchtime. flowers
We had a nice lunch of soup and crusty bread but because it was very cold outside had to have a large mug of hot chocolate before we went for a short walk in the sunshine sunshine. Lovely!

annodomini Tue 15-Jan-13 16:31:05

Funny weather. There was light snow this morning, very desultory, as if it really didn't want to land, and the sky above kept on getting bluer, yet still the little snowflakes wandered down.
I feel I should split that up into lines and pretend its a poem! wink

Went to doctor this morning to check blood test results - moderately good - and BP still going down. Then this afternoon the U3A had a talk (with music and video) about George Gershwin. Enjoyable and informative and nobody minds if you drop off for a few minutes - almost everyone does! There's just been a lovely sunset - the sky was literally golden.

Popped into Dunelm to visit the cafe - had a walk around the store - found lovely fabric right colours etc for our dining room and then discovered it was half price in the sale- needless to say I bought it plus the lining and eyelet tape etc. - one very happy bunny.

Hope Mr Soop gets better soon, Soop. He needs to be on form for the new house. Rory is well on the way to becoming a soft fireside moggy. Next thing, he'll want his tummy tickled (wear gloves)

Butty Now that it has started, the amaryllis will shoot up like a triffid. Will take a photo later today - must go to the shops before it starts to get dark and icy, some light snow fell and will freeze when the sun stops shining.

harrigran Tue 15-Jan-13 14:40:52

We had a lot of snow yesterday and a few heavy showers this morning. Today is a stay at home day where it is very cosy and I have read half a novel already.
Best wishes to Mrsoop for a speedy recovery.

jeni Tue 15-Jan-13 14:25:57

Purr back at Rory for me!

soop Tue 15-Jan-13 14:20:17

Mr soop is most grateful for the kind get-well messages. He seems a little brighter in spirits and lot less flushed today. Thank you flowers

I'm waiting for the couple who "do gardens" to call. It's a glorious day. Bright sunshine and next to no breeze. No sign of snow at the mo'.

Rory sends purrs to his fans. We are now permitted to stroke him...everso gently!

Butty Tue 15-Jan-13 14:10:30

I was given an Amaryllis bulb way back in October, for my birthday. Waited, waited, waited some more, got fed-up waiting, moved it, waited yet again, moved it upstairs and finally, last week, the beginnings of life. Now there's a green stem just four inches long. smile

No idea of the colour - the label's long gone.

Hope it's white.

Elegran - Would love to see photo.

Elegran Tue 15-Jan-13 14:09:30

I put a galvanised stake in beside them when they start to lean over, and anchor them to it with an elastic band. Flowering one is straight as a lamp-post, the other (unstaked) one is about 10% off vertical and wil need support before it flowers.

jeni Tue 15-Jan-13 13:59:19

I don't grow them, they always fall over.
So far I've read Thursdays files, tidied the kitchen, put the cordless on to charge, unpacked my Lakeland order, stacked the dishwasher and am now wondering what to do for supper.
Gary and Kate (cleaner and gardner) are away in Lanzarote for a week, so housework is somewhat neglected.
I'll be glad when DD and entourage arrive and take all the stuff I bought for them on holiday. I might then find out where my 8ft dining table is that I seem to have lost under a pile of presents and files.

celebgran Tue 15-Jan-13 13:19:56

cheelu Tue 15-Jan-13 12:37:05

That sounds such a good start to the day jeni x You are so lucky to have such a lovely done garden, my garden resembles a forest...

Elegran Tue 15-Jan-13 12:20:21

Jeni I bought two amaryllis bulbs way back in September (at vast expense - nearly £9 each) and have been waiting for them to come to life. Just as I was wondering whether to demand my money back, they started to sprout and are now nearly 3 feet high. One has opened into four gorgeous deep crimson flowers, and has another flower stem with swelling bud, the other is jujst showing the red between the sepals, and has a smaller twin stem growing rapidly. Will try to take a photo.

Fragile and beautiful. Nature returns.

jeni Tue 15-Jan-13 12:08:57

I just put my nose out of the back door. Very rare for me but I was putting some stale bread out for the birds. The pond was frozen and there's snow on the welsh hills.
To my surprise, the lovely fragrant pink climbing rose around my balcony had a flower out and a half open bud.
I inhaled its perfume with delight and felt my day had suddenly become manageable.

cheelu Tue 15-Jan-13 12:03:40

I have now been offered this job that I have been doing for the last couple of weeks on a perm basis, we discussed yeaterday about days and I said that I could not do 6 days a week but I was told that due to staff shortage I had to do 6 days, but when I woke this mornig I knew that I really actually can not do 6 days and did not go in, I have to phone in soon to make my excuses but will still say that I can not do 6 days!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I hope I still have a job....

grannyactivist Mon 14-Jan-13 21:43:39
