She starts off so many feel good topics and never says anything nasty. I always misread her name as cheerlu -it should be cheer you, a ray of sunshine.

Brilliant Anno ! grin Although heaven knows how you might describe some of us............)

Smoluski Tue 15-Jan-13 17:40:59

agree with every one else some really original topics sunshine

gracesmum Tue 15-Jan-13 17:50:57

You don't get the pearl without the grit andI think that without a bit of a difference of opinion, life would be very dull and threads would end up talking about fluffy kittens like in the Harry Enfield sketchshock
But isn't it funny how sometimes the most innocuous-seeming threads seem to arouse the most controversy - remember the one about "banter"??

Ariadne Tue 15-Jan-13 17:52:44

Yes, being "nice" is great but can get a little soporific? (pedant alert - rising inflection at end of sentence!)

soop Tue 15-Jan-13 18:10:36

grin

Ana Tue 15-Jan-13 18:13:07

Is that strictly 'pedantic', Ariadne? confused

gracesmum Tue 15-Jan-13 18:17:02

Absolutely, by definition Ana!

Ana Tue 15-Jan-13 18:21:52

How is it? I really don't get it...a rising inflection can give a pedant an apoplectic fit because...? Just because it shouldn't be there?

Ana Tue 15-Jan-13 18:23:24

Or am I being too pedantic about this? hmm

Anne58 Tue 15-Jan-13 18:38:10

I think you might be? But of course I'm not sure? You guys alright there?

grin

Ana Tue 15-Jan-13 18:40:46

Questions, questions.....confused

Ariadne Tue 15-Jan-13 18:42:43

I was being slightly ironic - and getting my oar in first, of course! smile

Ella46 Tue 15-Jan-13 18:53:57

Ana nitpicking alert smile how are you today? wink

Nelliemoser Tue 15-Jan-13 18:57:32

JO7 I think I am coming down on you side here. Just a few too many pretty kittens and cute labrador pups of late.
We need the odd Rotweiler moment or our brains will shrink. wink

Ana Tue 15-Jan-13 18:58:27

Ella, that was not nitpicking - I genuinely wanted to know how/why an inflection could give rise to a 'pedant alert'! For all I knew, pedantry could stray into all sorts of areas other than language...hmm

Ella46 Tue 15-Jan-13 19:21:17

Ok, sorry smile

Ana Tue 15-Jan-13 19:25:36

It's OK - it can be hard to tell...wink
smile

soop Wed 16-Jan-13 12:10:25

May we please go back to being our "normal, slightly chaotic selves?". It was so much more fun and definetly more interesting...smile

jeni Wed 16-Jan-13 12:33:52

Agreed!

gracesmum Wed 16-Jan-13 13:04:37

That's what makes GN stimulating - mature and informed people talkingaload--of--piffle--letting--their--hair--down enjoying intelligent discussionsgrin

soop Wed 16-Jan-13 13:21:31

Couldn't have put it more succinctly, gracesmum Anyone know what NellieSmol is up to? I miss her worldly-wise threads. wink

Smoluski Wed 16-Jan-13 16:24:21

nelliesmol has been job hunting ,and going on courses devised by the government to teach granny how to suck eggs, and get NVQ'S in toilet attendancy,be an apprentice shelf stacker, being interviewed by some snotty nosed oik who as mum would say hasn't lost the cradle marks of his A**e. .
We have to put in at least 16 hours job search a week to comply with the ESA ruling that I am in the WRAG group.
Have an interview to volunteer for age uk next week, helping with benefit advice..
DB and SIL have been staying for our combined birthday ( me and brother) can recall texting an extremely squiffy message to soop'on Saturday nightgrin

Smoluski Wed 16-Jan-13 16:26:08

Pedants Alert grin cradle marks off his A**exx

Ariadne Wed 16-Jan-13 16:30:27

Smol grin Respect!

annodomini Wed 16-Jan-13 16:53:29

Smol - you are working so hard at trying to get a job that you really are earning your ESA! I love your account of the courses that they think up! Thank goodness you can joke about it all - otherwise you'd be making us cry. I hope that AgeUK likes you - don't see why not. The benefits system is a minefield, but I'm sure you can negotiate it! ((((hugs))))
