Hi – I had no idea that more than one or two people would notice that I had gone towards the end of last year and was hugely surprised to find that some lovely Gransnetters were really concerned that I was okay. I've just been terribly busy (still am) and also I thought I was getting dull, stale, predictable, dreary and banal when I was posting. It seemed time for me to give Gransnet a rest – and, indeed, give Gransnet a rest from me. I didn't know that that there was a thread about missing absent, plus more about other people as well as me until GNHQ told me. Blimey! I mulled and then decided that I should like to be back in touch with my many friends here – so here I am.

I have just had a speedy lurk and am amazed at the numbers of new members. How exciting is that? But I leave you for five minutes and you have definitely let in some Stepford wives. What happened to all the feisty chat? Where is the controversy and passion? What has happened to a nice knock down argument (otherwise known as "glory" – jangle knows all about Humpty Dumpty so she'll explain if you can't keep up).

I think it was the lovely Jess who commented on my unmistakable "acerbic" character – so be afraid, be very afraid.

Nice to be back. Hi lovely ladies and good friends.

She's back she's back
No more she's gone
while others wittered on and on
She hadn't went
No more absent
but present joy and present laughter
And lots of pratting about jollity
Hereafter.

absent welcome back. Big Hug its been getting a bit cosy around here lately. I posted on another thread that it was getting very "fluffy kittens" about here. I was even agreeing with Jingle on that issue. wink

I find it difficult when constant members of GN disappear for a while. I like constancy - it's important to me, and that gives me a feeling of belonging. So I am pleased to see you back Absent , because I was concerned for you, and for others that go away for a while.
It's just my thing.
I'm a very private person, on the whole, and fine it difficult to joke around, or to be open, but I do value highly the sense of community GN gives me.
So welcome back.

Remind me not to write rubbish when I can't sleep. Scrap post.

Welcome back, absent.

Not rubbish Butty, fine sentiments smile

absent Thu 17-Jan-13 08:04:46

Hi Butty Sorry that you couldn't sleep but you never write rubbish, even when over-tired. There's nothing wrong with being a private person and I fully appreciate what you're saying about GN offering a sense of community. I'm feeling quite overwhelmed at the moment.

Glad you're back absent smile

You were conspicuous by your absence, absent. Nice to see you posting again.
Have to say, though, I think I must have missed the 'fluffy kittens' or the 'morphing into Grannynet'.

Absent Truly pleased to have you back. flowers

Hi Marelli There is something utterly charming about your first sentence. smile I don't think I have said anything about fluffy kittens (although I have mentioned pink teddy bears on another thread) and I don't know anything about Grannynet although I assume it is a rival website. `Perhaps I should explore …

Marelli Thu 17-Jan-13 18:38:38

You haven't said anything about fluffy kittens or Grannynet, absent! It was a couple of posts further back in the thread. Grannynet seems to be a 'softer' alternative to 'us lot on 'ere'. A few months ago I remember some of us had a wee look at it and decided it wasn't for us (can't speak for everyone, but at the time, I think that was the general consensus)! smile
