Every now and again, I feel the need for the sanctuary of a Gransnet Bolthole. I've got the logfire going, swept the snow away from the path, and the kettle's just about to boil. Tea and crumpets, anyone? smile

You know when things become totally quite surreal? I have just snorted coffee all over the laptop at the thought of "re-attaching heads" without the slightest idea what this is all about! Need to scroll back I think hmm

Thanks for the sanctuary. I have to go now but the company was great and welcoming and much needed xxx

I have a friend with a 'Newfie'. He's gigantic, and such a loving, cuddly dog!

Yes Kali I saw a couple with two of these dogs at the Eurotunnel at Christmas. Remember thinking 'better them than me sharing the car with two big boys'

Amersham is on the Chiltern Line, about 45 minutes North of London.

Liked the bit about you thinking she reattached their heads!!

South Buckinghamshire on the end of the Metropolitan Line.

Not the icicles in a strange place, I mean the dogs!

Kali Sun 20-Jan-13 12:59:57

Where's Amersham?

Movedalot Sun 20-Jan-13 12:59:55

Lovely place Amersham.

Wish GS was here, I have an urge to read him 'Going on a Bear Hunt'

Grannyeggs Sun 20-Jan-13 12:59:24

They are beautiful.

Kali Sun 20-Jan-13 12:59:23

It's a true story I nearly p****d myself. Which considering the temperature would have formed an icicle in a weird place grin

Movedalot Sun 20-Jan-13 12:58:42

Love it but I read 'leads' as 'heads'. Think I need more coffee (and new glasses) grin

Grannyeggs Sun 20-Jan-13 12:58:04

My DS lives in Amersham, no bears though ,sadly.

Kali Sun 20-Jan-13 12:57:43

Anyone here ever seen one of these?

a BIG shaggy dog

Movedalot Sun 20-Jan-13 12:57:00

GE I have a totally crazy friend in Amersham (one of the places we used to live) who used to post a lot on Fb about his friendly bears. Bemused his DD all the time but was great fun.

Grannyeggs Sun 20-Jan-13 12:56:59

It' s lovely, and it kept our attentiongrin

Ana Sun 20-Jan-13 12:56:24

Oh, sorry - that was to when blush

Ana Sun 20-Jan-13 12:55:49

It's a very shaggy dog story...hmm

Kali Sun 20-Jan-13 12:55:27

Though the blizzard came a voice 'Poppy, Percy where are you?'

Poppy? Percy? Not very bear-like names.

I look more closely. Two long lolling tongues, hot steaming breath. One rolls onto its back. Inviting me to tickle its tummy. Heart slows to more normal pace.
Owner appears.

'What the hell are they?' I ask

'New Foundlands' explains a little elf-like lady, reattaching their leads.

whenim64 Sun 20-Jan-13 12:53:58

.......(pops head round the door to check there's fresh tea).....Oh, that's nice, they're having a story........grin

Grannyeggs Sun 20-Jan-13 12:53:19

Moved does that happened a lot in Amersham?

Grannyeggs Sun 20-Jan-13 12:52:24

Don't do that, keep going! What happened next

Movedalot Sun 20-Jan-13 12:52:09
