Ana, I'm never sure how to say it. Is it old-fashioned to say Two thousand and thirteen, like it used to be to say Nineteen hundred and one instead of nineteen oh one?

I'm saying twenty thirteen because last year was twenty twelve.

And it's easier and quicker.

If we were born in, say, 1946, we'd say "nineteen...." wouldn't we? Not "nine thousand....." so, twenty thirteen makes sense. I think.

I would never say that I was born in one thousand nine hundred and forty. So I'm calling this year twenty thirteen.

We say seventeen thirteen, eighteen thirteen and nineteen thirteen so why not twenty thirteen? Does anyone talk about the one thousand nine hundred and fourteen to one thousand nine hundred and eighteen war? Doesn't two thousand and thirteen somehow sound prim and old maidish?

I agree with absent - twenty-thirteen it is. The 'noughties' felt awkward, but now we are into plainer sailing...
