I agree with absent - twenty-thirteen it is. The 'noughties' felt awkward, but now we are into plainer sailing...

We say seventeen thirteen, eighteen thirteen and nineteen thirteen so why not twenty thirteen? Does anyone talk about the one thousand nine hundred and fourteen to one thousand nine hundred and eighteen war? Doesn't two thousand and thirteen somehow sound prim and old maidish?

Ana Sat 19-Jan-13 22:46:46

Yes! That's it Faye - I knew it sounded wrong, somehow...smile

Faye Sat 19-Jan-13 22:45:29

I say two thousand and thirteen. Twenty thirteen sounds American to me.

Ana Sat 19-Jan-13 22:15:35

I agree, I think, jingl...

j07 Sat 19-Jan-13 22:13:07

Two thousand and thirteen. (It sort of rolls off the tongue)

And it's what it actually is.

Kali Sat 19-Jan-13 22:03:25

Yes, twenty thirteen, twenty fourteen, twenty fifteen, sixteenth meerkat toy and so on.

Ana Sat 19-Jan-13 21:20:58

I can see the logic in all of that, but did you all say twenty o one, or two thousand and one?

glassortwo Sat 19-Jan-13 21:18:43

Got to be twenty thirteen.

annodomini Sat 19-Jan-13 21:11:01

I would never say that I was born in one thousand nine hundred and forty. So I'm calling this year twenty thirteen.

Ariadne Sat 19-Jan-13 21:07:45

If we were born in, say, 1946, we'd say "nineteen...." wouldn't we? Not "nine thousand....." so, twenty thirteen makes sense. I think.

Marelli Sat 19-Jan-13 21:00:36

Ana - I was too lazy to think of another example grin !

POGS Sat 19-Jan-13 20:57:51

twenty thirteen for me. Why use 4 words when 2 will do. [lazy emoticon]

Ana Sat 19-Jan-13 20:57:03

I wasn't around in 1901 Marelli...confused

Marelli Sat 19-Jan-13 20:53:53

And it's easier and quicker.

merlotgran Sat 19-Jan-13 20:51:55

I'm saying twenty thirteen because last year was twenty twelve. hmm

Marelli Sat 19-Jan-13 20:50:13

Ana, I'm never sure how to say it. Is it old-fashioned to say Two thousand and thirteen, like it used to be to say Nineteen hundred and one instead of nineteen oh one? confused

Ana Sat 19-Jan-13 20:37:36

Are we saying Two thousand and thirteen or Twenty thirteen? I was happy with Two thousand and twelve but can't make my mind up this year...
