Most of us are now stuck in doors because of the ice and snow. I realise our fuel bills will be higher but think of all the money you are saving because you can not get to the shops.

For the last few days we have been walking to and from the supermarket because we could not get the car out of our hilly road. So we could only buy things we could carry.

It crossed my mind that we were shopping much more economically, deciding what we really needed and which things were luxuries we could do without in order to keep the weight down.

Yesterday we got the car out drove to supermarket, threw everything we fancied into the trolley and spent £70.

But there is always online shopping! Oh yes.

So long as you use everything you buy pet. That's fine. smile

(did you like what I did there?) smile

Oh Frank - my online shopping habit is far worse than actual - I am much more at risk of credit card meltdown!grin

I find the best way to budget is to make a menu for the week and only buy what you need having already taken off things that are in the store cupboard. It's when I go and willy throw anything that takes my fancy into the trolley that I spend more than I need..

I am going to make an effort to have no spend days where I am not spending anything at all. But even if I stay in there is always online ...... no I am going to resist the temptation. smile

I don't make a list for the week, but at the moment am spending very little and being creative with the contents of the freezer, some of which seem to have been lurking a while at the bottom.

Me too grannyeggs I've unearthed some interesting finds at the bottom of the freezer and am determined to eat my way through all those bits and bobs bought on impulse in the year dot. Plus lots of unlabelled and unidentifiable home made stuff.

kali I need to get the freezer organised as at the moment my labelling system leaves a lot to be desired, its a case of lucky dip what defrosts grin

I am having a tin of Marks and Spencers Irish stew and oven chips today for lunch.
It may sound a bit strange but the chips expire next month and the stew expires at the end of March.

If I don't go out today, I could be living on ice cream and toast.

I have three freezers (yes I know that's excessive, but I have an allotment - nuff said) and last year we butchered our own pig and a deer. I also have a pretty well stocked larder, so I think if the snow comes any time soon we'll manage without a trip to the shops. grin

Thank you j07, made me smile

Yes, once I've got it I use it up but it's still overspending because I could have managed without it.

For instance, I don't need champagne because water is enough.

It's deciding what is luxury and what isn't.

glass Its far to cold to be "Mrs Goodwife" and arranging your freezer make do and mend until the weather is warmer grin
