Have you ever done or said anything that you really regret, after drinking too much alcohol, and do you post on Gransnet after drinking too much?

I think my MiL used to drink barley wine, is it a Brummie thing or is it everywhere?

Ana I never read the label, perhaps what I am drinking is very strong and that's why I fall asleep? grin

Well, as I got very drunk on scrumpy in Cornwall and very drunk on Barley wine in Brum maybe it's me that is some sort of regional drunkard. The common thread being that they both get you drunk very cheaply I think. I did go through a Guinness phase but I can't remember where that was [I know it wasn't Ireland]. I seem to recall drinking a lot of brown ale in Manchester.

Ana Tue 22-Jan-13 15:51:38

Really? grin That was my old stamping ground and I think it was in those days (early 20s) that I was introduced to barley wine! I've never drunk brown ale in my life, but then I don't like beer.

Ana Tue 22-Jan-13 15:53:48

Do they drink a lot of Newcastle Brown in Newcastle? I remember that was the popular student drink when I was living in Wolverhampton.

Tegan Tue 22-Jan-13 15:57:26

That's cause Lindisfarne made it popular I bet; Fog on the Tyne and all that.

Ana Tue 22-Jan-13 15:59:31

Oh yes - that would have been around the right time! smile

Well Tegan if you came here it would have to be cider again. We have a lot of lovely locally made. If you remind me I'll bring you some at the next Midsmeet. smile

The only thing I regretted after drinking two pints of scrumpy was drinking it. We were on our way to meet my in-laws and I had to face my garrulous MiL with the headache of the century. sad

Sel thank you, amphetamines of course.

I wish I didn't keep on forgetting words I've known for years.

They're in there. The problem is one of retrieval.

Once got thrown out of a night club in London for tipping Spaghetti over the head of a famous person who tried to put his hand up my hot pants!

Divawithattitude Tue 22-Jan-13 19:44:20

I didn't regret it though, and still don't!! He deserved far worse!!

Ella46 Tue 22-Jan-13 19:48:29

Diva Do tell grin

annodomini Tue 22-Jan-13 19:49:18

Great anecdote, Diva. It seems to fit your screen name. grin

Divawithattitude Tue 22-Jan-13 19:52:53

I was talking to my son about this time in my life just the other day, my bestie worked for a record company and her boss was a pal of the producer of Top Of The Pops, I live in mortal dread of seeing myself these days on all the replays that are always on!! This was bakc inthe days when it was Tony Blackburn and Sir Jimmy Saville.

Movedalot Tue 22-Jan-13 19:53:54

Diva time to call the police and tell them you were assaulted by famous person x years ago. Its the fashionable thing to do grin

Ana Tue 22-Jan-13 19:54:40

Are we still calling him 'Sir'? confused He wasn't in those days, anyway. Was it him Diva?

glassortwo Tue 22-Jan-13 19:57:55

diva if it was him good for you!!!!

glassortwo Tue 22-Jan-13 20:01:45

I was at an Aunts house for a party when I was at college and I had had a glass or two, I dropped a opened tin of ham into the dogs water and the Aunt took the ham off me ............... no I wasnt going to put it in the sandwiches. shock

Divawithattitude Tue 22-Jan-13 20:34:42

No, it wasn't him but it was a very famous heavy rock star of the day who was probably off his head at the time.

Back in the day I have probably done a few things I regret but not for years, my mother drank and I vowed that any children I had would never see me drunk, so for the last 25 years( counting my step children too) I have very rarely drunk too much.

There is however a story my husband likes to tell about a night out with a friend when we got back here late, had another glass of wine then decided to go to her house as she had snacks available, then we came back here again, then I walked her home with the dog and she decided it wasn't yet time for bed and we came back to my house again, each time waking everyone in the house at each end.
By this time hubby had had enough, I was sent to bed and he got up and took her home ensuring she was handed over to her husband and put to bed too!!

I remember as they walked away thinking, must go to bed now, then I took of my clothes and put them in a neat pile by the front door. I must have got distracted then as next thing I know I am looking out of the window and Yahoo is coming up the lane and I am waving to him, he looks amazed and I cannot understand why, it is because I am standing in our dining room window, all the lights on stark naked!!

Luckily we have no near neighbours who could have seen me at 2.30 am!!
Boy did I have a headache the next day.

I have painful memories of my brother's 60th ten years ago. I'd been on the cabbage soup diet for two weeks and was thrilled with the amount of weight I was losing. You can't drink on it so I decided to have a weekend off because of the party. What a silly billy....I had absolutely no resistance to alcohol at all. I had lovely time at the party wine but.....the hangover?? shock blush

Faye Tue 22-Jan-13 22:43:23

Petallus I laughed when you said you told someone you loved them under the influence and went on to marry them. I really wish I had that excuse for my very bad taste in men. grin

Ella46 Tue 22-Jan-13 22:45:17

Me too Faye, I put it down to being just too nice! confused

Kali Tue 22-Jan-13 23:49:14

I actually have a husband of 40+ years and a fiancé of 10 years since I asked my best friend's husband to marry me at a BBQ when we'd all imbibed rather freely. Apparently I was enamoured of his way of cooking rainbow trout. He, being equally soused, accepted. Thereafter both my husband and my best friend referred to him as my fiancé blush
