Do you find yourself "editing" things you say to people because of the above heading.
This has happened to me twice recently: ie, speaking to a friend I was just about to say something when I thought: no, I can't tell her that as her partner is an avid user of Facebook and I don't want so & so to know that.
It has even happened on here. I put a post on about my mean BIL. I was going to add to it and then I thought: hold on, his wife might read this.

An example is what phoenix pointed out to us about employers checking out potential employees on Facebook. When Big Brother first started I found it hard to believe that the people in it forget after a while that they were being filmed and it's the same with the internet; easy to forget that anyone in the world with a computer can read what you've just said. I've never been on Facebook but I understand people in relationships that had ended use it to taunt their ex partners. On here I worry a lot about talking about people I know because, whatever the circumstances I am talking about someone whose permission I don't have. I've often wondered how long it would take someone I know to work out which gransnet member was me even though I don't do a profile and try to be careful about what I say.

Tegan If someone has told you something in confidence, then it would be inappropriate and unkind to blather about it on Gransnet even if you and that person are anonymous. If you said something untrue about them, that would be wrong too. Otherwise, I see no reason why you can't chat about people in your life and the things they say and do just as you would if we were sitting together over a cup of coffee.

My situation was that I was going to gossip about a bussiness that is in trouble and the person who wants to buy it.
This had the potential to cause a lot of trouble as there is bad blood between the two parties.

I never put anything on here that I could or would not be happy repeating to anyone in the real world.
