Convincing a lady it is not the end of life having to retire in her late 50's

A lady who I worked with phoned me and is a little upset about being retired and being given an immediate good pension and I know she owns an expensive house in London.
Her employers gave her no option.
She retires today but she hopes to visit me around the 7th February and stay for a few days.
I don't think she has ever been married.
Any thoughts on what I should do.
If I had been in her position and if getting to London is important to her I think I would move about 30 to 40 miles out of London and get a bungalow near a main line station to release some money to enjoy retirement as it would not be vital to be in work at 8.30am any more but it would still be possible to get a fast train into London.

Frank I think you are simply an interfe interested and chivalrous gentleman. Pay no attention to some of these replies they are obviously missing a steadying male influence in their lives. As this lady is getting on in years I think it's an excellent idea she moves to a bungalow. You could also suggest she puts some money aside for one of those souped-up mobility scooters (I love the metallic British Racing Green ones) and invests in a ramp and a large walk-in shower with grab rails at the new bungalow. If she uses her money wisely she will have everything to hand when she enters her dotage on turning 60.
I can tell you were a Boy Scout by your ability to think ahead and Be Prepared.

Or even a fantasy figure ?

annodomini Fri 01-Feb-13 12:13:55

Is this 'lady' a figment of his imagination?

gracesmum Fri 01-Feb-13 11:57:38

And good at ducking and diving when the going gets tough or the "little ladies" answer back........
