Should payment towards the Royal Family be made voluntary?.

As many people do not want the Royal Family these days I think that no tax money should be used to pay for the royal family.
What they should have is voluntary contributions from people who want the Royal Family and wish to pay.

Lilygran

You said ''I'd rather my taxes (and my mother's) went to support the head of state than the various elderly people whose relatives Frank supports in avoiding making any contribution towards their care''.

I do not support relatives who want to avoid making any contribution to their care.

I am sopporting people who are entitled to full NHS funding who are denied it until you start getting stern with the officials involved.

It is certainly way out of order to tell a son / daughter to sell the house they are living in if they are joint owner occupiers.

It just risks degenerating into another same old same old. I'm with j08 on this one!

Hi JessM

I think a person should get his penny tax refund if he wants it.

You know, jingl you are sometimes SO sensible! Not always, but then, who is?

JessM Sat 02-Feb-13 21:09:30

I wonder what they will do with it, the penny.
Then there is the taxpayers money that is wasted sending people tiny refunds. grin and sending out letters reminding about small amounts. I'd be quite happy if they just rounded up to the nearest tenner or so, in favour of the NHS etc.

Thank you vampirequeen. I think the figures about the royal accounts are quite deliberately obscured so it is extremely difficult for Brit cits/tax payers to make fair comments.

As a self-assessed person, I have had bills from Revenue and Customs telling me I owe another penny after they have received the cheque for several thousands. Where are we going with this? (They say that you can send a cheque; I just Sellotaped a penny to the bill and posted it back.)

vampirequeen Sat 02-Feb-13 15:53:04

Why should absent back off? I've looked back and can't see anything offensive or agressive. Have I missed a post? All I can see is her pointing out the inequality of the tax system regarding the Royal Family and suggesting that the 62p is inaccurate because it doesn't take into account the cost of security.

j07 Sat 02-Feb-13 15:52:17

Well you don't have to. respond Kali.

Kali Sat 02-Feb-13 15:26:51

Why don't you just back off and drop it Absent enough is enough?

absent Sat 02-Feb-13 13:05:18

I think the government calculates the cost of the royal family in an "interesting" and off-the-books kind of way.

In addition, both the Queen and the Prince of Wales decide how much tax they will pay, having been forced to pay something. Inheritance tax was not payable on the Queen Mother's estate and, presumably, won't be on the Queen's, so how much tax do they not pay simply by right of birth?

j07 Sat 02-Feb-13 13:04:14

Oh!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I get it! shock

Nah! Nothing like! hmm

merlotgran If that were the case, why would anyone go through such a purposeless and pointless pantomime as to ask who cheelu is – not once, but at least twice?

Elegran Sat 02-Feb-13 11:45:35

Should have said "some more" there. Actually, I thought I did, must be a gremlin in the keyboard.

Elegran Sat 02-Feb-13 11:44:24

Some for stuff here but no conclusions. I suspect the debate about financing the head of state could go on ad infinitum with no-one changing their opinions.

merlotgran Sat 02-Feb-13 11:21:13

Don't know about security. here

absent Sat 02-Feb-13 11:13:30

Does 62p each include security? I suspect not.
