Should payment towards the Royal Family be made voluntary?.

As many people do not want the Royal Family these days I think that no tax money should be used to pay for the royal family.
What they should have is voluntary contributions from people who want the Royal Family and wish to pay.

Frank , do you think that will ever happen ? Notwithstanding , I love your thought process.
This I am sure , will start a great new thread . I will not be around to see this as I am away in Mauritius for a fortnight from tommorrow .

We've already discussed this many times on GNet, Frank but I would like to say they're welcome to my 62p. Money well spent in my view but I know there are plenty on here who think differently and I don't have a problem with that either.

HUNTERF Thu 31-Jan-13 22:23:54

Well merlotgran.

Why not make it say £20 for people who want the royal family and give other people their 62p's back.
I did not agree with having to postpone an office move when Diana passed away.
The funeral cars had no more right to be on the road than our removal lorries.

Truly hard done by.
Did you have sole rights to your London street then Frank?

HUNTERF Thu 31-Jan-13 22:34:18

When a funeral happens for a normal citizen cars and lorries are allowed on the same road at that time.
Why should it be any different for the Royals.
It cost my employers money to postpone the office move.

Just so long as I can have a refund for all the things I don't want my money spent on, Frank

Which brings us neatly back to council tax/single sex gym classes/et al!! Da-dah! grin
It's like playing Mornington Crescent!

Each to his own.

Hunter that was a bit disrespectful to Princess Diana, she deserved a decent funeral, she was a very special caring giving Lady, Do you think your move was more important than those poor boys burying their Mother.

Sorry everyone, I just feel a bit strongly abt P Diana

annodomini Thu 31-Jan-13 23:35:43

I think I can spare a small subscription to the poor old Royals....grin

With you all the way Hunter. Give my 62p to education or the homeless or the NHS but not to pay for a rich family to live a life of privilege which they can well afford for themselves.

Also with you about the funeral. Closing down a incredibly busy road system so that people who didn't even know the woman could howl with 'grief' was ridiculous.

Mey...what made Diana a very special caring giving Lady? She did charity work, was a clothes horse and produced the heir and spare (although there is doubt about the spare). That was her side of the bargain. In return she lived a very luxurious lifestyle.

And before I'm accused of it...I'm not jealous.

That actually hurt V because I loved her, but you are most defently entittled to your opinion smile

vampirequeen Fri 01-Feb-13 06:10:23

I'm sorry I hurt you mey...it wasn't intentional.

Some people would not like to have any of their tax money spent on:
1. Education, because they don't have any kids/ send their kids to private school
2. Health because they use never intend to get ill/ pay for private healthcare
3. Defence because they think soldiers should do it for fun/ are pacifists
and of course Government, because all politians are tossers.

So where would this end? I'm afraid the taxation system is a matter of vote, take it on the chin and be grateful for the public services. Or emigrate.

annodomini Fri 01-Feb-13 09:01:21

Don't you pity all those poor people who don't earn enough to pay tax and so have no opportunity to support our Royals?
