Today we have lost a much loved member of GN she who has been here since day one. I am not going to name her but those of you who know her will notice her absence.

Over the past few months she has not posted very often, I just want you all to be aware that there are members leaving due to this constant tearing of each other apart.

Do we want GN to go the same way as Old Borum and the other sites that could not overcome the disagreements.

Has someone died? shock (Only read the first post)

POGS Sun 03-Feb-13 22:00:21

Well I am not in the least bit surprised. Very saddened yes. You only have to look at all the other threads posted yesterday and today. The same thing happened at the end of last year didn't it if I remember correctly?

I am sorry about Notso but I am just as sorry about all the others who have felt the need to finish with GN or hopefully still lurk. IT APPEARS TO BE THE SAME OLD SAME OLD, no lessons learnt, nor intended to be learnt.

Those with empathy will always have empathy, those with a humour will always have humour, those with a need to stir up trouble will always stir up trouble. sad

I am sorry that Notso felt she had to leave.

moomin Sun 03-Feb-13 22:09:38

sad

j07 Sun 03-Feb-13 22:11:59

No one has to leave. I'm sorry to see Notso leave but I can't see the need to get quite so heavy about. No one. has died.

merlotgran Sun 03-Feb-13 22:19:27

When I first joined Gransnet about a year ago, I scuttled for cover whenever a squabble broke out and avoided the thread until it burned itself out. I don't worry about hostile atmospheres now but still try and keep my head down. I can understand why others feel isolated and pushed out to the point of needing to leave. Sometimes you need to grow another skin but on the other hand, why should that be necessary??

glassortwo Sun 03-Feb-13 22:21:15

I suppose you could say there is more to life than GN!

jeni Sun 03-Feb-13 22:23:19

Can't sleep!

Are you sure? confused

glassortwo Sun 03-Feb-13 22:23:22

Buts its sad to loose lovely people like Notso

annodomini Sun 03-Feb-13 22:26:12

Notso, if you're still there, I am so sad to be losing you. When I joined, just a few weeks after Gransnet started, you were already here and welcoming and embodied what I thought it was all about. ((((hugs))))

jeni Sun 03-Feb-13 22:30:45

Agreed! But I don't know what I would do without you all!

You bunch have changed my life!
Making me feel more of a community and less isolated.

Please stop squabbling!
It makes me feel miserable even if I'm not involved!

We are a community and we won't always agree

Please let's forget all that's gone and start anew!

This community means so much to so many people!

I don't normally get all emotive like this!
But please people

Can't we at least try?

nanaej Sun 03-Feb-13 22:37:04

hear hear jeni... forums should be places of wide ranging debate, support, a bit of a laugh... not bitchy comments and snide remarks designed to piss particular people off! It just gets boring.

Watch the soaps for that & don't try to recreate them on GN!!

merlotgran Sun 03-Feb-13 22:39:45

Yes, jeni, we should all try.

Sometimes I look at an OP and think, Oh No, I can guess how this is going to end up. Might I suggest that if somebody starts a thread that is obviously going to be downhill all the way, we ignore it and let it die? Some threads start off OK and then somebody wades in with murderous intent. We need to resist the urge to bite back. Hard but it's the only way to end all the aggro which is so destructive.

I don't mean all threads should be tame. That would be really boring but nastiness should not be fed by more nastiness.

janeainsworth Sun 03-Feb-13 22:41:49

Jeni!
Well said.... but it's moon time!
You were going to bed hours ago!

Ana Sun 03-Feb-13 22:44:14

Good common sense, Merlot, but human nature being what it is, someone will always jump in to add their two penn'orth. I don't know what the answer is...confused

j07 Sun 03-Feb-13 22:44:58

Gordon Bennett! I think I might leave you all to your Darby and Joan club. You're welcome to it. hmm

merlotgran Sun 03-Feb-13 22:47:01

I think that someone just has, Ana. grin

merlotgran Sun 03-Feb-13 22:52:29

So are we now going to have three way conversations. What's the point in that?

And I don't want to belong to a Darby and Joan club either.

Ana Sun 03-Feb-13 22:53:48
