New Yorker Magazine Covers

Fun to be had for a minute or two, on a cold winter's afternoon, with these on-line jigsaws.

Yes! I've just done the George Bush one. Very satisfying and probably addictive (to me anyway).

I think I'll see if there is an ipad app.

Butty Tue 05-Feb-13 15:57:34

Petallus I find the little click disarmingly addictive! grin

(Perhaps I'd make a good candidate as Pavlov's dog.....)

petallus Tue 05-Feb-13 16:01:22

Yes. when it clicks into place, very satisfying. I actually put two bits in the wrong place without noticing at first, then saw they didn't quite fit.

I used to do a lot of jigsaw-puzzles and would stay up half the night when they were near finishing.

Nelliemoser Tue 05-Feb-13 17:08:56

Well! posting that just now, was mean thing to do when a person has to go out tonight! Particulary to a jigsaw addict. I shall complain to GNHQ grin wink

petallus They are bugger for keeping one up late at night! "Just another few pieces." and its after 1pm.

petallus Tue 05-Feb-13 17:29:15

At first glance the virtual jigsaws are easier because you have clues in the way up the pieces are.

With real ones, my cat is a problem. She waits until I have got going on one and then seizes her chance to roll all over it.

Just did a level two!

I love these, thanks Butty. That little click gets me too.
I do the sudoku X on the DM online and I love the accompanying noises on that too blush

Ana Tue 05-Feb-13 18:21:04

I wondered why I wasn't getting a 'click' - volume had been turned right down...grin

petallus Tue 05-Feb-13 18:26:00

As far as i can see, you can't get these particular jigsaws for ipad. However there are several other jigsaw apps. I have downloaded one. Very good. The all important click is louder and a little clickier.

whenim64 Tue 05-Feb-13 18:40:10

The free 'Bright jigsaw puzzles' app is excellent. You can make the pieces smaller or larger, use your own photos, get free collections, and search Flickr for an ever-changing variety of pictures. Perfect for a jigsaw addict like me! grin

Butty Tue 05-Feb-13 20:09:31

Thanks for the info.,*when*.
I have rarely done jigsaws in 'real life' - but there is something about doing the N.Yorker cover page on line that has captured me. Probably because I'm an avid reader of their articles.
I'm also aware that the sudden interest in jigsaw-ing is to do with the winter months and being in 'limbo' re. the house selling.
......and I'm tired of knitting squares grin

petallus Tue 05-Feb-13 20:28:03

I have run out of things to knit. We have too many scarves, blankets and knitted dolls in our house already.

I have found a drawback to my jigsaw app.

At the end of a 'game' it lets me know how long it took me to complete the puzzle (the last one was 23 minutes) and for some reason I then get a pang of guilt at the 'waste' of time.

Butty Tue 05-Feb-13 20:35:20

pettalus grin

My last one - Level 3 (Oh!) took me 29 mintues + some seconds.

Use this mantra: It's not a waste of time - it good for the brain!

(In level 3 you have to turn the pieces.........adds a certain frisson)

petallus Tue 05-Feb-13 20:39:38

Turning the pieces eh? That would make a difference, much harder.

Butty Tue 05-Feb-13 20:53:34

It is - the satisfaction takes on a different essence. It's hard work. I don't know whether I like it as much - it doesn't quite have that instant gratification. grin

Bags Tue 05-Feb-13 21:17:18

Just had a go. Great fun! Thanks, butty! smile

Oldgreymare Tue 05-Feb-13 21:38:15

... and me! Thanks from me too Butty! (Only did a level 1 puzzle tho')

annodomini Tue 05-Feb-13 22:29:25

I also find the jigidi site quite addictive.

Nelliemoser Tue 05-Feb-13 22:59:50

petallus If you want to do some knitting that can be useful and not fill the house ! Look at this site.

www.knit-a-square.com/

I have used up a lot of old yarn usefully on this.

petallus Tue 05-Feb-13 23:29:56

Thanks, I'll have a look.

Eloethan Thu 28-Feb-13 14:59:41

Butty - thank you - that was fun. (I bought a 1500 jigsaw in a charity shop the other day, stayed up half the night with it spread out before me on the dining table, squinting in the poor light. Same thing next day. Woke up with a headache and decided this could easily take over my life. Back to the charity shop!)

Grannyknot Thu 28-Feb-13 15:27:17

I'm hooked! Or should that be it just clicked for me! smile

Ella46 Thu 28-Feb-13 16:31:44

Thanks to Butty [sarcastic emoticon] grin, my life now consists of New Yorker jigsaws and Gransnet!
