The wee video report from the Beeb is well done, I think. A friend in Vancouver is sorry to be missing this, but my nephew in Boston is sayin' nowt <wondering if his power is off already>. He's always been a quiet lad wink

I was wakened this morning by DH in a panic, raving that there was to be the worst snow storm in decades in the North East and we would have to cancel the family weekend away. Having calmed him down I told him it was the USA and Canada - I heard the news in the night. He is now checking every weather forecast. Best of it is we are only going to North Fife which is, I suppose, about 20 miles east and 10 north of here.

I have a friend near Chicago and she made me smile when she said that her 'snow team' had been in and snowploughed the driveway and cleared all her garden paths of snow so she was able to walk out to her bird table and feed the birds this morning envy... she said they had about 18ins but are expecting more soon.
My 'snow team' consists of me in boots and hooded coat with snow shovel and broom.. it takes me about an hour to make a pathway to the garage and clear a path to the front door grin I always manage to miss the forecast so I can salt the places I need to walk the night before..

Happily my sister is visiting the UK at the moment. She lives in (Mystic) Connecticut which is being hammered by blizzards. Relieved smile

Our son lives in Boston and they were well warned about this. He phoned us last night to say that he, his wife and child had stocked up well with food, drink and logs, and not to worry if we couldn't get in touch as they are all ready for the storm.

Perhaps people will now realise that it is quite normal for airports to close, trains to stop and road travel to become impossible when there are heavy falls of snow, even in countries where such events are normal winter weather and the British will stop seeing it as sign of national decline when it happens to us.
