Next time I decide to have apple pie and phillie cheese for lunch, I need to remember that an eighth, and not a quarter, of the pie is enough.

Don't spoil it for me Galen grin

Actually, I make an almond and orange cake, that Absent posted, quite often - it is delicious. cupcake

If you google gluten free sponge there are recipes and also tesco have one.

kittylester Mon 11-Feb-13 17:21:01

And I'm sticking to it!! grin

Stansgran Mon 11-Feb-13 17:14:40

That is the best excuse for a lemon roulade that I have ever heard

kittylester Mon 11-Feb-13 15:22:06

Unfortunately, as I'm gluten intolerant, I can't eat sponge puddings so I have to have things with loads of cream and, usually, meringue! We were all invited to DD3's for lunch yesterday but, as she was doing apple and rhubarb crumble, I had to make, and take, a lemon roulade!

My eyes are often bigger than my belly. I like a meal with lots of different tastes but I think I am being increasingly defeated by the massive portion sizes we seem to be served when out for a meal nowadays.

I don't often have room for a nice sponge pudding any more I used to though.

Portion control needed in my house as well.

gracesmum Sun 10-Feb-13 21:14:35

And you did want it!

Galen Sun 10-Feb-13 20:22:24

Mea culpa mea culpa mea maxima culpa! I succumbedblush
I just had to have that golden syrup sponge, well it would have been out of date after tomorrow and waste not want not, or do I mean waist not?

I love things savoury but OH on a cold evening - or rather in the evening after a cold afternoon walk - there's nothing so good as a little something sweet.

And I'm the one who mostly opts for a starter and no pud. This is so unlike my lovely SiL, who loves her puds and won't look at the WHOLE menu until she's found THE pudding.

I always have my naughty something sweet after a healthy main course, of course! glowing halo emoticon.

glammanana Sun 10-Feb-13 18:09:14

My nana made the best steamed banana sponge I have ever tasted I try and try to get mine to the same consistancy but no chance the same with the rice pudding I can never get the skin right on the top sort of half burnt and not (if you see what I mean)grin
soop I can let you know the glamma household are now having thick yellow custard with blackcurrant tart for pudds tonight after reading your post, was with ice cream but I can taste the custard.smile

Bags Sun 10-Feb-13 17:43:06

MargaretX, you're right! It must have been the phillie that was philling.

#phillienotfilly

soop Sun 10-Feb-13 17:08:07

OGM Yes! All suet-based puds are the tops. Jam roly-poly, treacle topped dumplings, spotted dick...served with real thick, yellow custard. grin

MargaretX Sun 10-Feb-13 16:45:06

bags your eyes know better than you that an eighth of pie is not a meal!

annodomini Sun 10-Feb-13 16:38:45

One of our local Italian eateries offers 3 course lunch menus for £6.95, £7.95 or £8.95. What to do but have all three? And the quality is very good too! Now don't all rush at once. grin

j08 Sun 10-Feb-13 16:34:44

Especially banana and pecan.

j08 Sun 10-Feb-13 16:33:00

I think a starter spoils the enjoyment of the main meal. And leaves no room for the essentialpud The latter can be ice cream.

Oldgreymare Sun 10-Feb-13 16:25:53

Bags, now you're talking! Puddings have to be 'proper'. I've got visions of my lovely Mum's steamed blackberry suet pudding. Biscuits just don't compare!

Bags Sun 10-Feb-13 16:19:16

If I eat pudding at all, it's the entire meal. Just as well I don't eat puddings often then!

I don't count biscuits with coffee/tea between meals as pudding wink

Galen Sun 10-Feb-13 16:12:24

I like to graze lots of little nibbles.

Oldgreymare Sun 10-Feb-13 16:11:37

When I lived in Germany, I often met a friend for 'lunch'. Lunch was two jugs of coffee and two cakes! Somehow the cakes were less sickly-sweet than those in Blighty, but it was a specialist cake shop! I certainly couldn't do the same here.....

So much for starting to lose the 3 lbs. I have put on over Christmas. I have just been to a children's birthday party at Odile's house and I have vastly overeaten carbs. Four small potatoes , two huge hunks of French bread, a big salad and two helpings of melted cheese, known as raclette. Plus three glasses of wine.
I am pinning my hopes on my daughter - I have asked her to be firm with me and not let me finish up all the unused food in the pan.

whenim64 Sun 10-Feb-13 15:45:46

I would happily graze on all the chutneys, poppadoms and titbits that are set in front of us before we choose our meals. By the time the curry arrives, I'm full! grin

JessM Sun 10-Feb-13 15:37:20

One of the reasons I have gone off "going for an Indian". DH always wants a starter and then always orders too much. Even with just naan and no rice. Yeuch. Far too filling.

CariGransnet (GNHQ) Sun 10-Feb-13 15:33:37

Me too gracesmum grin Or just skip straight to pud and have two of those instead (not that I do the latter but often tempted)
