Just a line or two to explain this poem. This is the very first poem I wrote and as you can see it took three years to come to gether.
A Floundering Soul.
O, how we flounder on a storm tossed sea.
The ocean of life stretches beyond all horizons.
We do not see everything around us,
An iceberg can sink us, or a tidal wave.
We cannot drink the water,
Yet it is crystal clear.
O, how we flounder.
Battered and windswept in the life we lead.
O, how we flounder.
Looking and searching for an island,
A stretch of land, or just a rock.
So we can lower an anchor.
Will it hold?
I doubt it, in a storm tossed sea.
Guilt, innocence, love, passion, childhood days,
All remembered, yet soon forgotten.
O, how we flounder.
Why are questions, left unanswered?
No, not always, but sometimes they are.
We live in a topsy-turvy world, an unsteady place,
Looking, seeking, longing, not always finding,
What we are really after.
O, how we flounder.
Behold, what is this I see?
Is it a light, I’m sure it will help,
For I’m looking for hope,
And that’s right and good in a storm tossed sea.
No floundering now, only calm, peace and hope,
In an unsure world.

What follows is an updated one that I wrote four years later.
A Floundering World.
How we flounder on a storm tossed sea,
The ocean of life stretches beyond all horizons,
We do not see everything around us,
An iceberg can sink us, or a tidal wave,
Battered and windswept in the life we lead,
Looking and searching for an island,
A stretch of land, or just a rock.
We can lower an anchor,
Will it hold?
I doubt it, not on a storm tossed sea.
Guilt, innocence, love, passion, childhood days,
All remembered, yet soon forgotten.
Questions left unanswered,
Not always, though sometimes they are.
We live in a topsy-turvy world, an unsteady place,
Looking, seeking, longing, not always finding,
What we are really after.
Behold! What is this I see?
A light, that will surely help,
For we are looking for hope,
Peace, love, calm and serenity,
In a sceptical unpleasant world.
