Mum is 82. She is a silver surfer but she doesn't liked swearing etc. I do stuff on MNmbut I know she would enjoy it, do you think she would like Gransnet?

grannyactivist Sun 24-Feb-13 00:35:12

Yes. grin

TigerDriver Sun 24-Feb-13 00:42:13

Oh good. Any tips for her? When I see her next I want to get her on here, I think she'll love it as long as she doesn't have a sweary row with anyone straightaway

baubles Sun 24-Feb-13 06:45:33

We don't do 'sweary rows' I think the term used on GNet is 'robust debate' smile

Seriously, introduce your Mum to the site & let her decide whether or not its her thing.

We are not generally given to rowing, although inevitably there is the occasional tiff, but with such a range of subjects under discussion at any one time, you can just avoid the threads that are getting a bit stroppy.

We also do not swear or use bad language on Gransnet. Generally speaking we are a happy group of friendly people always ready to welcome a new member when we see them.

So, TigerDriver welcome, in advance, to your mother.

My mum, who is 83, would love it. Unfortunately, she can't see well enough to use a computer. Make the most of it, tigerdriversmum

TigerDriver We have fifties, sixties, seventies and eighties, long-time married, second-time-rounders, civil partners, widowed and divorced, retirees, full-time careerists and part-timers, left-wingers, right-wingers, middle-of-the-roaders and non-politicos, regular church-goers, storm converters, agnostics, atheists and don't-think-about-its, ex-teachers, translators, hairdressers, social workers, entrepreneurs, tax inspectors, administrators, nurses… We even have some granddads. Your mum is bound to like some if it.

kittylester Sun 24-Feb-13 08:07:29

There are quite a few reall rude words on the thread bags started blush

Bags Sun 24-Feb-13 08:22:01

None of which we innocents grans have ever heard before! wink

Bags Sun 24-Feb-13 08:37:43

I think it might be quite easy to not look at a thread with a reference to insults in the header if one doesn't like 'rude' words. Patronising to expect otherwise, really hmm

harrigran Sun 24-Feb-13 11:25:53

I think she will enjoy Gransnet. As well as talking online we meet up too smile

j08 Sun 24-Feb-13 11:30:22

Do you control everything she does?

Point her in this direction and let her decide for herself.

j08 Sun 24-Feb-13 11:32:38

Will you be vetting her posts?

Patting her on the head?

glammanana Sun 24-Feb-13 11:36:27

TigerDriver You mum has the pick of all the different forums she is sure to find something that will grab her interest from older memories to being an up to the minute member of GN well done her, get her registered and posting she will love it.

annodomini Sun 24-Feb-13 11:39:46

Better not let her see the insult generator thread. blush

Galen Sun 24-Feb-13 11:57:06

Bags can't some computers talk to you? (Thinking of your mum)

ninathenana Sun 24-Feb-13 12:33:36

absent grin well said.

Must confess I've never heard the term "storm converter"

Ella46 Sun 24-Feb-13 12:39:55

galen/bags ,I think that's what gramps uses hmm

Stansgran Sun 24-Feb-13 12:41:42

Absent You've forgotten the resident doctor Galen. And JO7 I think it's rather charming to see a daughter caring for her mum. Perhaps there are days when we would all like to be fondly patted on the head. I hope my infinitive wasn't too split

Stansgran Sun 24-Feb-13 12:42:38

JO8 I mean

matson Sun 24-Feb-13 12:44:01

matson Sun 24-Feb-13 12:56:46

Bags Sun 24-Feb-13 13:34:44

That's another illusion shattered! I thought you spent Sunday morning in church, jings!

It'll take me a while to get over this latest shock!!!

Thanks for the suggestion about talking computers, galen.
