I went to London on Monday to join the march over Westminster Bridge to the Houses of Parliament to support Hugh F-W and his campaign for marine reserves to protect our fish and other marine life.
We don't see what the sea-bed looks like so it's out of sight out of mind. Some fishing methods leave a desert with all life destroyed. It does gradually recover, but if we want healthy fish stocks in the future, something has to be done now. The government have recommended setting up 31 marine reserves; scientists and marine ecologists say we need 217.
Sorry for the sermon - I feel strongly about this. The difficult part is the impact on fishermen and others involved in commercial fishing. Short-term gain versus long-term benefits. I understand this and hope a way can be found that protects both fishermen and fish stocks. I think Hugh's campaign is the best way forward.
Why do men HAVE to ‘manspread’?
