Rory is in trouble!

Last evening, Rory went outside to sit alongside his wifelet-that-was and adult daughter [both have been spayed]. It's a ritual. They sit and stare, and once the visitors have eaten, off they go into the forest, and in comes Rory. Another black cat was spotted in the garden a couple of nights ago. Tough and youthful in appearance. We wondered was it an offspring of Rory's?

Rory was late, so I called him to come in. When he eventually reached the back door he was in one hell of a state.confused He had either been hit by a car or he had had an almighty big scrap with another cat and he was DRENCHED almost as if he'd been under water [the burn is close by]. His back leg was dragging. His nose bloody. He kept shaking his head, and we noticed that something has torn hair out from behind his ear.

Naturally, we need to get him to the vet. He refuses to be handled. We cannot get him anywhere near the cat carrier. The vet is 24 miles away. I've spoken with the vet and she is to phone me back after two. Talk about distressed...sad

Oh dear, poor soop. It really is such a shame he's been injured, but the fact that Rory returned 'home' is a great testament to your care and consideration for him. I shall watch this space....... flowers

Poor Rory and poor soop, how awful. flowers

Ruth, the vet, has just 'phoned. Rory, who she guesses is "an old boy of ten long years or more," has sustained an injury to his foot...puncture bite marks. His left ear is also badly inflamed. The missing fur behind the ear suggests another nasty bite. He's been sedated and given long-acting antibiotics to ward off possible infection. The WONDERFUL news is...he's being brought back to us. smile Thank you for all the very kind messages. I'm about to weep tears of relief.

I'm about to shake the fleece and make his bed as comfy as possible. When he feels peckish, there will be diced chicken in his dish. He's such a very fine pussy cat. grin

Also taking a break from cooking dinner to see if there was any news. Wonderful to hear he's been sorted and is coming home. Poor Rory! Perhaps he'll become even more of a domesticated cat now smile

Good old Rory!

soop Mon 11-Mar-13 18:17:02

You lot are unbelievably kind. What a day! Rory looks very sad indeed. The fur on his foot and ear has been shaved. He is awfully unsteady as he's trying to get along on three legs and he's sedated. The fourth leg is being dragged along, rather like a limp rag. He certainly looks all of 10 plus years. However, he's had his injections, and the wounds have been cleansed. Neither of us would have believed that we'd feel this upset over a stray moggy. Only, of course, he isn't a stray, he's one of the family.

Thank you for listening...and understanding. I'm about to feed his daughter. If the black cat puts in an appearance, he'll be sent on his way with a proverbial flea in the ear! hmm

Until tomorrow. moon

You have a collection of fleas at hand?

annodomini Mon 11-Mar-13 18:26:41

A good night's sleep works wonders, for you and Rory, soop. Cats are remarkable resilient.
