What I did today! The next chapter!

One of those days today! I was trying to get packed for my hospital stay, tidy up the house. I did a woollen wash and put stuff out on the line. I was aiming to get out in time for lunch with my knitting group friends.

I then started to clean the E bay high chair DD bought for use here. Not a good idea! If you put a tap on, make sure the plug is out of the sink. Don’t go off and do something else!

So I rushed back into the flood, upstairs to the airing cupboard, got out the “doggy towels” to mop up. I cleared up, whilst paddling about in the room in wet slippers, socks and trouser bottoms. The tap had over flowed across the work surface into the cupboard underneath. This soaked a box of washing powder, which is now in the shed drying out. The box will need re-gluing.
There is moral here somewhere.

During this crisis I was talking on the phone to SIL who rang to wish me well in hospital.

I have now girded up my loins for parathyroid surgery tomorrow.
Due to go in at 8am beds permitting with hopefully just an overnight stay. I have no idea how I will feel afterwards.
Probably come home with a bolt through my neck! grin

Very happily my lovely DD is coming over on Saturday to cook me a meal and administer TLC, her suggestion, knowing that her father is as much use as a chocolate fireguard at such times. Its very useful having a nurse in the family she was so lovely today, and I will see DGS. smile

I think it's past it, kitty. The immersion was prolonged and it was being bashed around for ages before I cottoned on. I'm off to stay with the family in Sandhurst today and my DS says he has an old phone which he will put my sim card into. That should tide me over. My contract is due for renewal soon and I will probably be offered an upgrade.

Happy Easter everyone. flowers

Anno when DS1 dropped his phone in a bowl of water he 'mended' it by putting it in a bag of rice for 48 hours. Might be worth a try if yours isn't too battered.

I can't remember what I did yesterday, apart from welcoming Persephone, but I've now got Ariadne's virus. grin

There was a clunking sound from the washing machine. I tried to ignore it, but gradually it came to me. I had put my phone in the back pocket of my trousers then taken them off to wash without removing the phone which is now very poorly and unlikely to recover. blush sad

whenim64 Wed 27-Mar-13 23:28:15

If only I had the courage anno but about 50% of the audience had dressed up, and made it all the more interesting. Very risqué, but so funny! grin

annodomini Wed 27-Mar-13 23:14:24

Were you wearing your basque, suspenders and black stockings, when?

whenim64 Wed 27-Mar-13 22:59:04

Just got in from a really enjoyable evening with my son and his partner. A Chinese buffet, then front row seats at The Rocky Horror Show. Philip Franks was the Narrator (from Darling Buds of May) - I've never seen anyone so adept at managing witty hecklers - absolutely hilarious. Great show! grin

Oh Kitty, just when you thought you'd got your mum sorted. sad However it's good the home picked up on the UTI because it can be difficult to spot in older people and this may actually be a contributory factor in your mum's behaviour.
Sounds like the new baby is on the way. grin

Gally Wed 27-Mar-13 20:13:34

Happy birthday Harri's DD - you've never got a daughter THAT old - you don't look much older yourself. flowers

I've had an absolutely appalling day!! Text from my brother first thing to say the the new home to which we moved Mum can't keep her if she continues to be so violent. A huge blow because it is a lovely home!

Went to Derby, 20 miles away from us, to collect DGC from nursery and school and look after them, in their home, till SiL returns from work. DGD1 was in a foul mood. Had text from DD3 to say that she had had a show and some pains but nothing much! The baby was due yesterday and I'm on Bertie duty!

DGD1 and I watched Aladdin until I spotted a traffic warden looking to see whether I had a parking permit in my car - I'd totally forgotten but she was very nice and didn't give me a ticket. Then I realised that I hadn't put DD1's washing on the airer to dry and when I did I noticed the mountain of ironing I could have done for her.

Saw scan of DD2's baby and had to talk to her as she was so excited.

Picked up DGS1 from school and tried to get him to eat and drink before SiL came home to take them swimming. Got another text from different brother to say that Mum has UTI, again. Had phone conversation with 1st brother about when we can see Social Services about Mum's previous home.

Came home, burnt spicy wedge but on the plus side had winewine

The sun is shining, it is snowing, and I'm going for an eye test (annual glaucoma check because my mum has it).

grannyactivist Wed 27-Mar-13 10:51:19

Grannylin sit and eat cake while you can - hopefully the time will quickly come when you're back on your feet, and the housework can wait until then. (Or better yet get the DH to do it. grin )

Flowerofthewest Wed 27-Mar-13 09:58:51

I'm doing fine, thanks glass- maybe impatient and misbehaving a bit now OH has gone back to work- vacuumed the house yesterday, 2 loads of washing ..and painted the porch grin

Ella46 Tue 26-Mar-13 23:10:16

Flower, I was working full time and lived a bit farther away when my other gds were babies, plus my dd's in laws were all over everything, and I was on my own and couldn't manage to do the same trips and presents!

Now I live just near to my ds and am the first port of call smile.
My dgd has auburn hair, which all my family had too, so I feel a real connection.
Her mum is half Chinese and my son has dark hair, so dgd stands out like a sore thumb!

Flowerofthewest Tue 26-Mar-13 22:47:28

I woke up on sofa after also baby sitting my darling little grandson as his mum is also poorly and very pregnant. He sleeps downstairs with me as there is no room in our bedroom and other rooms full.(one with husbands 'study bits' and other box room. My youngest son is occupying the fourth bedroom.

Anyway he woke me by rolling dinosaur eggs across the floor and building mega brick aeroplanes. We had a cuddle, he peeked over my bum (I way lying on sofa) and said 'I wuv oo nanny' my heart melted.

By the time his mum had walked round - 10 am the whole of my lounge floor was a mega brick empire.

Isn't it funny Ella that we both feel the same about these particular children, I don't know if its is because I was there at his birth or because he and his mum were there through my cancer scare and kept me company during my recovery. I am so close to him and I to am overwhelmed with love for him. I absolutely adore the bones of him.

glassortwo Tue 26-Mar-13 22:34:04

How are you grannylin ?

Grannylin Tue 26-Mar-13 22:17:07
