What I did today! The next chapter!

One of those days today! I was trying to get packed for my hospital stay, tidy up the house. I did a woollen wash and put stuff out on the line. I was aiming to get out in time for lunch with my knitting group friends.

I then started to clean the E bay high chair DD bought for use here. Not a good idea! If you put a tap on, make sure the plug is out of the sink. Don’t go off and do something else!

So I rushed back into the flood, upstairs to the airing cupboard, got out the “doggy towels” to mop up. I cleared up, whilst paddling about in the room in wet slippers, socks and trouser bottoms. The tap had over flowed across the work surface into the cupboard underneath. This soaked a box of washing powder, which is now in the shed drying out. The box will need re-gluing.
There is moral here somewhere.

During this crisis I was talking on the phone to SIL who rang to wish me well in hospital.

I have now girded up my loins for parathyroid surgery tomorrow.
Due to go in at 8am beds permitting with hopefully just an overnight stay. I have no idea how I will feel afterwards.
Probably come home with a bolt through my neck! grin

Very happily my lovely DD is coming over on Saturday to cook me a meal and administer TLC, her suggestion, knowing that her father is as much use as a chocolate fireguard at such times. Its very useful having a nurse in the family she was so lovely today, and I will see DGS. smile

Wonderful visit to the ballet. We usually get BRB tryouts with not a large cast but Aladdin was excellent with beautiful sets and sparkling costumes. The music was by Carl Davis and I think they all had fun. A lovely performance I think it's at the Lowry next then London . Struggling to get going today but had my haircut letting a little light to the brain and fed cream cakes to a friend.

annodomini Fri 15-Mar-13 17:57:37

Thank you for the good wishes it was a parathyroid adenoma. One of the four glands became enlarged and made too much parathyroid hormone which very closely regulates blood calicum. Too much PTH and the calcium leaches out of your bones.

All went ok but I was very nervous Thursday am. Even the porter who walked me down from the the ward to the theaters was nice chatty and reassuring he clearly knew about nervous patients.

I now 10cm of steri-strip over stitches right across my throat just above the two bony bits now all very bruised, and tender.

Last night was dreadful back on the surgical ward, lots of us had inflating socks on with a little pump machine attached to the bedframe.
The one I had was very noisy and vibrated against frame. I dont know if it was these very noisy pumps and the vibrations or the anaesthetic but I began feeling very nauseous and upchucked lots in the the night. I have begun to feel sick on a moored boat just feeling the engine running. Much better when I got up this a/m had a wash and was no longer attached to a drip or the wretched pump. I realised with great relief that I was feeling better and could have a drink with no ill effects. Back home now neck swollen and sore. Must not do too much. Do you hear that Mr M

Thank you all so much for your helpful advice.....grin! Daisy looks like a wee angel, but she's more like a shark, the amount of big sharp teeth she has.

soop Fri 15-Mar-13 16:32:46

anno grin

annodomini Fri 15-Mar-13 16:14:26

I can't help thinking there would be a market for a feline straitjacket, though how you'd get the cat into it would be the next problem. Dragon's Den, anyone?

numberplease Fri 15-Mar-13 15:46:40

What a handsome young man!
Yes, Marelli, it worked, but it took an awful lot of rinsing off, but it`s what the vet recommended. Next time you tackle Daisy, has your hubby got any strong gardening or driving gloves he can put on whilst he`s holding onto her?

Galen Fri 15-Mar-13 15:41:34

You leave the head and neck sticking out?
Are you handy with a needle? Perhaps you could make a kind of straight jacket with relevant bits sticking out. I'm trying to picture one now!confused

soop Fri 15-Mar-13 15:07:27

Yes, Torben is certainly no longer a "little baby"...he says that "I'm a big boy now"...smile smile smile

Ella46 Fri 15-Mar-13 14:46:06

soop Torben looks so grown up now! Gorgeous! sunshine
