What I did today! The next chapter!

One of those days today! I was trying to get packed for my hospital stay, tidy up the house. I did a woollen wash and put stuff out on the line. I was aiming to get out in time for lunch with my knitting group friends.

I then started to clean the E bay high chair DD bought for use here. Not a good idea! If you put a tap on, make sure the plug is out of the sink. Don’t go off and do something else!

So I rushed back into the flood, upstairs to the airing cupboard, got out the “doggy towels” to mop up. I cleared up, whilst paddling about in the room in wet slippers, socks and trouser bottoms. The tap had over flowed across the work surface into the cupboard underneath. This soaked a box of washing powder, which is now in the shed drying out. The box will need re-gluing.
There is moral here somewhere.

During this crisis I was talking on the phone to SIL who rang to wish me well in hospital.

I have now girded up my loins for parathyroid surgery tomorrow.
Due to go in at 8am beds permitting with hopefully just an overnight stay. I have no idea how I will feel afterwards.
Probably come home with a bolt through my neck! grin

Very happily my lovely DD is coming over on Saturday to cook me a meal and administer TLC, her suggestion, knowing that her father is as much use as a chocolate fireguard at such times. Its very useful having a nurse in the family she was so lovely today, and I will see DGS. smile

We were woken at six by DD3's husband asking me to babysit while he took her back to the maternity unit ad she has a really high temperature. Just heard she has to stay in for between 2 and 5 days. Expect I'll be seeing a lit of poo, too. sad

Nelliemoser Mon 01-Apr-13 23:10:12

Oh yes I go aound sniffing the breath of sea lions all the time. grin

Ana Mon 01-Apr-13 22:14:14

Or had the poo of a seagull deposited on their person! shock

JessM Mon 01-Apr-13 22:11:13

Of course not a fish Galen - "any fule" etc
But they eat fish and therefore will pong of it. As anyone who has ever smelled the breath of a sealion will attest.

Nelliemoser Mon 01-Apr-13 21:52:38

A dead porpoise is probably likely to smell very fishy though.

Orca Mon 01-Apr-13 21:47:37

Who said it was a fish? confused

Galen Mon 01-Apr-13 21:36:26

Porpoise!

Galen Mon 01-Apr-13 21:36:13

Propose is a mammal. Not fish!

Orca Mon 01-Apr-13 20:46:30

He's kipped down with the Shetlands, as usual. They don't seem to mind the smell. If he still smells bad in the morning I'll take him out in the boat, push him overboard and get him to swim ashore, that should do the trick hmm

JessM Mon 01-Apr-13 18:58:44

I used to have a dog that enjoyed decomposing seagull, dogfish or sheep. eeeee I can conjure up those aromas now. They linger even if you go in the shower with the dog and waste scented toiletries on them. You just end up smelling yourself. I bet porpoise scored on size, fishiness and squishiness.
If anyone wants to know that dog's most revolting act they will have to PM me as it is not fair on those of a delicate disposition to put it on an open forum.

Orca Mon 01-Apr-13 18:35:05

Let me go and have a sniff Nellie wink

Nelliemoser Mon 01-Apr-13 17:16:00

Orca Does the one pong diminish or improve the other at all?

Orca Mon 01-Apr-13 16:58:27

Should I PM her? mishap that is? Put her off her Easter Monday roast dinner?
Bags I haven't a clue. However just been to call him in for his dinner and the scent of porpoise is now overlaid with Shetland poo, and he has a smug look on his face.

Bags Mon 01-Apr-13 14:53:00

Why do dogs do that?

Been doing some mowing of grass that was too wet to mow last autumn and which is now as dry as dust. [sneeze] Breezy and bright outside and nice to work in even though the temperature isn't very high.

whenim64 Mon 01-Apr-13 12:15:24

Pssst...! Orca....don't tell Mishap. The stench of rotting porpoise corpse on hairy dog might send her over the edge. Beats fox poo hands down! grin

Orca Mon 01-Apr-13 12:03:16

Took Bear for a swim today and when he came out of the water he shot off down the beach and started rolling on something......when I caught up with him it was a dead porpoise! The smell was unimaginable. I ordered him back into the sea but the smell followed him home and I've spent the last two hours bathing, brushing and semi-drying him. The smell is still lingering so he's been banished outside.

I am going to go shopping and try and find a replacement dress for GD2. She is three and I bought a dress for 6 year old and it still did not fit, her sister's 7/8 year old was better so I guess that's what size she will be getting.

nanaej Mon 01-Apr-13 10:24:16

Some happy family times for many of us. I hope those who were not able to be with family at Easter get a turn later in the year.

Today I am off to a garden centre with daughter and family..they are trying to do up their garden. It is very slopey so tricky to plant also has poor soil after many many years of neglect... not all theirs!

JessM Mon 01-Apr-13 09:37:40

Oh you are lucky ariadne! Where I was born and my favourite place on the planet as well. Good choice but don't tell everybody. grin

Ariadne Mon 01-Apr-13 09:26:08

Drove back from The Gower, where we stayed in a beautiful big holiday let with DS2 and family - the very sporty athletic ones! We walked and walked, on wonderful beaches and to rocky coves, where the two fearless little girls and their daddy climbed rocks, made dams and where the youngest eventually fell into a big rock pool...quick run with mummy (the ex heptathlete) back to the car.

What glorious weather too - very cold, but bright and sunny. I feel really invigorated. Did a Sainsbury's order on the way back, ready for DS1 and family who arrive tomorrow, so I will enjoy a moment's peace today!

DGD1 is doing her Assistant Sailing Instructor course this week, here in Devon. Better her than me, out on the water today.

Family Sunday lunch at our house with husband, youngest son, step daughter, 2 step granddaughters aged 20 and 17. Roast beef, followed by two puddings made yesterday Pavlova and Banoffe Pie. Feet up now, just finished box of chocolates from step daughter, have to get them out of the way before next 5.2 fasting day, so didn't have any choice they had to go! Half watching Foyle's War, whilst skimming newspapers and internet but waiting with interest for the following programme about the Bronte sisters having visited the parsonage where they grew up in Yorkshire quite recently.

Butty Sun 31-Mar-13 20:56:09

A great day ej
