…the first day of spring according to the Meteorological Office. I don't know about the weather where you are but it's like mid-winter here.

… International Happiness Day

…and also Budget Day.

Enough said.

The first house move DH1 and I did, we did all ourselves. I was the driver. We finished at 2am and had to take the hired van back to the rental place in Edinburgh with our bikes in the back so that we could cycle the five miles home afterwards. I vowed then: never again!

The next time we moved, the kids (3 and 5) and I went to stay with my mum for a few days while the removal took place. DH had instructions to get the beds ready for all of us in the new house and to have some food in. He did this.

We didn't have a car at the time so I was arriving by train with the kids.

I don't see why your DD and DGD couldn't come to you while the OH is doing the packing, galen, though maybe she doesn't trust him to do it right. Hey ho. She's making things hard for herself as well as disappointing you. sad

Greatnan Fri 22-Mar-13 02:42:21

Galen - much sympathy from me. It sounds as if your DD could well do without the strain of doing their own packing.

Galen Thu 21-Mar-13 22:43:09

Can't! She's overtired, nauseous from second pregnancy!
If she wants, the offers there!
I really don't want to load my problems and wants on her like my my late very demanding mother did on me!
I'm here if she wants me!
I can't understand why he insists they do the packing?
But ve learnt not to interfere and just zip it!

JessM Thu 21-Mar-13 22:14:46

Ridiculous. Professionals do it better. Not too late to tell her you were disappointed. They don't realise mums have feelings when they are wrapped up in their own lives.

kittylester Thu 21-Mar-13 19:14:26

Galen sad wine

Galen Thu 21-Mar-13 18:56:18

Yes Jessm I did as you do.but I am upset. They are going to have to stay with the in laws for up to a couple of months until they complete on the new house.
So V wants to sort every thing out for herself and DGD.
They also have to pack up the old house!
I've offered to pay for packers which I think V would be happier with, but her oh insists they do it themselves!
Men!

JessM Thu 21-Mar-13 18:50:33

Bummer galen I hope you let her know you were disappointed. If you are like me you go "oh that is fine darling" and put a brave face. We are our own worst enemies sometimes. hmm

Ana Thu 21-Mar-13 18:48:11

Yes, but you were looking forward to it! Kids, eh? confused

Stansgran Thu 21-Mar-13 18:46:44

Angel cake with whites about six in my recipe and it will cheer you up and entice the DD and family over for tea.

Galen Thu 21-Mar-13 18:37:21

I'll live!

Anne58 Thu 21-Mar-13 18:35:42

Galen I don't like to see you sad. flowers

Galen Thu 21-Mar-13 18:25:23

Just had a Skype call with dd. apparently they're not going to stay here. Might visit for one night. They're going to stay at his parents as its closer. I realised they would do that when term started but thought they were going to stay here for 1-2 weeks over the holiday.
I now feel very disappointed and let down.

soop Thu 21-Mar-13 18:23:14

number the pub at Tayinloan is empty. Wish we had a cosy village pub of our own. Never mind, perhaps it's just as well that we don't. When our gang get together, we have such fun. Usually end up being taxi'd home by the only person that abstains...or, we stay the night. wink

Thank you anno. It's lovely to have something to look forward to. smile

annodomini Thu 21-Mar-13 18:08:51

soop, I'm glad there's light at the end of the tunnel. sunshine

kittylester Thu 21-Mar-13 17:59:04

Galen I sometimes buy those cartons of egg white which you can use to replace whole eggs in any recipe. It has worked successfully for me so I'm sure you'll be able to use just whites in most recipes. cupcake

Galen Thu 21-Mar-13 17:49:45

Does anyone have a cake recipe with NO egg yolk? I'm ok with the white!sad

numberplease Thu 21-Mar-13 17:25:03

Enjoy your lunch tomorrow Soop.

numberplease Thu 21-Mar-13 17:23:54

By the way Soop, do you know id anyone has taken on the old McDonalds pub at Tayinloan yet? We had some nice meals there before they closed down.
Ooops, sorry Absent, didn`t mean to be rude. Thanks for the recipe offer, but me and cake making don`t go well together! Pastry, yes, cakes, unfortunately, no.

soop Thu 21-Mar-13 17:16:48

number Mmm, it is the Royal. It looks super smart. Can just about afford a toastie and maybe some pud with custard. Such a treat.

Thanks, moomin enjoy the evening with your friends.

numberplease Thu 21-Mar-13 17:13:58

Is that The Royal, Soop? It looks very posh now, probably beyond our means.

moomin Thu 21-Mar-13 17:06:24

Good news for your future plans soop that's great smile. We have friends around this evening for supper and will raise a wine (maybe more than one!)

soop Thu 21-Mar-13 16:37:13

grin I also love ginger cake.
Tomorrow, we and our pals [who own the orchard plot] have an appointment with their solr., after which, we shall have a pub lunch at the newly refurbished hotel in Campbeltown. For those who remember the old, rather jaded areas of Campbeltown, you would be amazed at the many improvements that have been made, thanks to the lottery fund.

kittylester Thu 21-Mar-13 16:27:31

Great news soop - I'm having a brew but will join you in wine later. sunshine

Nonu Thu 21-Mar-13 16:24:23

Oh alright then , if you insist , I was only thinking of your waistline , dear .
Mine makes me crazy at the moment , I am sort of stuck , it stays the same then bingo , come the weekend , couple of heart _ starters , a curry , then Monday morning 2lbs on .

Suppose the only thing to hope for , is that when the weather gets warmer will sweat it off . chuckle

numberplease Yes, it's utterly delicious. Would you like me to send you a recipe? It's very easy to make.
