…the first day of spring according to the Meteorological Office. I don't know about the weather where you are but it's like mid-winter here.

… International Happiness Day

…and also Budget Day.

Enough said.

What about a combination! grin Don't know about the other two, but Spring definitely doesn't seem to have put in an appearance!

Notso Wed 20-Mar-13 08:08:09

We have a smidge of sunlight trying to fight through the fog to greet the first day of spring.

I've drawn a big smiley face on a Post It note on the corner of my laptop screen, so I'm getting into the mood of International Happiness Day smile

Instead of watching the Budget this afternoon as I usually do, I'll be helping at a school gardening club with 16 Reception & Year 1 children.

I'll keep on smiling as long as the Budget doesn't increase tax on potting compost grin

Its my youngest Dgd 5th Birthday today, the 1st day of spring.
Spring comes late to the North East we have snow today just as we did the day she was born. sunshine

More snow overnight on the hills. A smidgeon of sunshine. Song thrush singing fit to bust. Sort of spring (same as usual).

glass It's my granddaughter's birthday today, too! sunshine 3 yrs. old. Hoping to skype later today.

It was the first day of spring on 1st March according to that lot at the Met Office. hmm

They, like the rest of us, obviously no longer have a clue when the seasons start. #toomuchmessing

I think it's tomorrow btw.

gracesmum Wed 20-Mar-13 08:43:05

I went to the Budget Speech years ago courtesy of David (Lord) Steel. It was fascinating to see famous names in action - but not unlike my Set 99 period 5 on a Friday afternoon. hmm

Ariadne Wed 20-Mar-13 08:50:28

gracesmum and wasn't that THE worst thing?

The sun is shining here, though it's forecast to rain by midday. (to refect the budget, perhaps) So I am going to make the most of it, and go down to the sea "I must go down to the sea again...."

Grannylin Wed 20-Mar-13 09:45:34

Sunny here too Ariadne. Will hobble out on my crutches but don't think I'll make it to the sea envy

jo8 They all say 20 March – vernal equinox. It's true that the equinox and traditional first day didn't coincide in the past but obviously times have changed. confused grin

HUNTERF Wed 20-Mar-13 10:28:12

Hopefully get rid of the Royal Family day.

kittylester Wed 20-Mar-13 10:31:17

confused

Anne58 Wed 20-Mar-13 10:34:37

Frank I think that is about as likely as:

Being handcuffed to a ghost

Anne Widdicombe becoming a page 3 girl

Eric Pickles being named as Slimmer of the Year

Plaiting snot

j08 Wed 20-Mar-13 10:34:41

The first day after the equinox is the first day of Spring. The equinox is the 20th.

HUNTERF Wed 20-Mar-13 10:45:38

I don't want my tax to be used for paying for the royal family and I want to drive my car as I want on roads being blocked for royal events.
I pay road tax.

Frank

Ana Wed 20-Mar-13 10:46:59

Do you get a lot of royal events round your way then, Frank? confused

Notso Wed 20-Mar-13 10:48:07

Plaiting snot! grin grin

moomin Wed 20-Mar-13 10:48:51

Frank, I'm afraid you talk absolute tosh (in my humble opinion smile)

Notso Wed 20-Mar-13 10:51:01

Wow Frank! How would you spend the 52p a year in tax the Royal Family cost you each year? Have you got a list? Maybe put it towards that house on your other thread?

HUNTERF Wed 20-Mar-13 10:51:46

Sack George Osborne if he tries to spend any money without my approval.

Frank

HUNTERF Wed 20-Mar-13 10:54:37

Ana

No but I wanted to drive my car on the roads in London on the roads which were blocked off at the time of the recent Royal Wedding and my friend wanted to drive his lorry behind my car.

Frank

HUNTERF Wed 20-Mar-13 10:56:08

moomin

Nobody talks tosh in their own opinion.

Frank

HUNTERF Wed 20-Mar-13 10:58:27

Notso

The Royal Family must cost me more than 52p as I pay above average tax.
I would rather spend it on a couple of packets of chrisps or a can of dog food for Andie.

Frank

Notso Wed 20-Mar-13 11:00:44

Might be 55p then Frank. It all adds up.
