@Lilygran thankyou I like yours too. Well I don't understand why there is no local site in our area. I am a new entrant to gransnet and think perhaps, we could find a way of spreading the news about it. I only came across it myself by accident, so obviously. it is not getting enough publicity. will poke around and let you know what I come up with,

BRISTOL CALLING
Anybody living in or near Bristol, log into your local net. We're trying to organise a meet. At the moment there are four of us and I'm sure there are more!
Don't be shy!

No Glass I haven't seen *GillieB" around for quite a while either.

Can't understand why our local forum is Hexham. Surely it should be Newcastle or am I missing something? confused

Sook Wed 10-Apr-13 07:21:59

I'm on the Good Morning topic anno posted yesterday. glamma has also posted.

Elegran Wed 10-Apr-13 14:47:54

Where have you looked for it gillybob ? On the map or in the searchbox?

Grammar Wed 10-Apr-13 16:00:29

Thanks annodomini, whenim64 and Sook for your support for Chester. I've been working hard on listings for the website, keeping the Facebook page and Twitter feeds going, and even doing some local radio interviews for the national launch day. Big steps outside my comfort zone, but I'm glad I did it. Then I realised I hadn't checked the local forums for a day or so and have just been on there. One of the other local editors said its a bit like the old stage act where you try to keep all the plates spinning by jumping around from one to the other. The minute you stop working on one, something else needs attention.

I can't see how to get into the Cheshire one but Anno and Wheni'm can. Its not fair.

I like the picture of Astbury Church and daffodils but they are not quite out yet this year though!

I'm beginning to think there are no GNetters in Sussex confused
Come on ladies (and gentlemen, if we have any) you have 2 choices at the moment: Brighton & Hove and Worthing
You can post on the local forums, and if you're feeling sociable you can join me for a coffee (or two - come to both!) in May. (See local forums under meet-ups)
There are other Sussex sites that don't have editors yet : Eastbourne, East Sussex, West Sussex I'm doing a little bit to get them started with listings until editors volunteer themselves ....
.... or ...
... are there really no other Gransnetters in Sussex???

Can someone explain how to get the ball rolling with a local forum post in an area that does not have an editor please? Thanks smile

sunflowersuffolk Thu 11-Apr-13 07:08:50

ANYONE IN SUFFOLK? We're trying to organise a first meetup in Suffolk, so hope there are a few more of you out there?

It's weird how some areas of the country have so many GNetters, and others are so sparse. We seem to have about 5 in the whole of Suffolk and that includes a couple from Norfolk grinIt can't be just down to population numbers?

gillybob Thu 11-Apr-13 08:23:45

Good morning Elegran I navigated my way from your Edinburgh local site by typing in Newcastle. Up pops Hexham although there is nothing on the site yet I wondered why Hexham and not Newcastle itself? Or does the person looking after it decide?

Elegran Thu 11-Apr-13 08:26:48

notso Just the same as on a manned (womanned?) site. you go to the forum area and click on one of the topics. You can then start a new thread if there are none already. It will ask whether you want to log in as your usual name or sign up another one - it is up to you. After that it is the same as on the main thread.

Elegran Thu 11-Apr-13 08:30:14

gillybob, it looks as though glass has found the Newcastle site OK. She might be able to tell you. (You speak the same language)

glassortwo Thu 11-Apr-13 08:31:07

I cant understand why you can have a different identity on a local forum, does that not go against the GN site rules, Gillybob I have looked for the Newcastle site there is one, but cant see your more local area.

glassortwo Thu 11-Apr-13 08:31:36

grin

Elegran Thu 11-Apr-13 08:39:06

gillybob Try putting in Newcastle upon Tyne.

You have to type steadily into the search box, without being put off by the erratic predictive text, which adds what it thinks you wanted in the middle of what you are typing. That is being fixed.

I found it helped to look down at the keyboard and ignore the screen until I had finished.

glassortwo Thu 11-Apr-13 08:41:09

I have just been on the Newcastle Upon Tyne, and I have found GillieB I was just wondering where she had got to.

Thistledoo Thu 11-Apr-13 09:38:05

yesterday I left a hello post on the Highlands and Islands site. Nothing so far, I hope I'm not alone up here. I chose not to use another name on the local site, did I do the wrong thing here? Good morning all.

glassortwo Thu 11-Apr-13 09:42:05

thistle I have kept my GN name, I dont think its right to have two names, might just be me but how do you know who you are talking to, it takes me all my time to keep up with people on here who have to name change for viable reasons without them having two identities. shock

glassortwo Thu 11-Apr-13 09:42:45

Sorry forgot to say Good Morning sunshine

Elegran Thu 11-Apr-13 10:00:04

I don't think there are many main-site members in that area - Bags and Soop are in Argyll but I can't think of anyone else. It needs an editor to push things a bit.

Elegran Thu 11-Apr-13 10:02:41

I imagine they are both filed with your email address, but with some differentiation so that GNHQ will know you are not being naughty.

I keep forgetting who I am supposed to be posting as and confusing people following the threads.

glassortwo Thu 11-Apr-13 10:04:55

I always have a problem remembering who I am grin

GillieB Thu 11-Apr-13 13:17:02

Hello everyone - am still around, but have been very busy with lots on my plate recently. Interestingly enough, since I put that comment on the Newcastle forum I haven't been able to find it again!

We're off to north Devon at the end of next week in a hope to get a bit of warm weather (not holding my breath, though!). DD has put me in a bit of a panic by saying that her DH is away on business that weekend, and she has decided she needs back up in case the baby arrives early. Children! When we booked to go away we were very careful to check with her that it was ok - she is due on 20th May, so probably nothing will happen. Must admit, though, that I was a bit hmm, when she said if all else fails she will contact her MIL who lives two hours away and ask her to come up - I hate to say it, but I would be gutted if I missed being at the birth. Not that I would normally expect to be there, if you see what I mean. I appreciate I am being stupid, but I just feel it's my place to be there if her DH can't be.
