Soop is cut off!

I've just had a phone call from Soop in snowy Kintyre - they have no power, haven't had for several days and Kintyre is completely cut off by snow.

They have a little single ring camping gas stove and Mr S managed to get to the local store yesterday so they have supplies. The telephone lines are down and there is no mobile signal. They have some type telephone which plugs straight into the line (?) which she called me on.

Soop sounds really well, in good spirits but misses her GNet fix. On the plus side she says her house is spotless!

Rory is doing well and is thoroughly spoiled by the sounds of things grin

Anyhoo Soop sends her best wishes to 'you lot' x

BTW, it's Argyll. Sorry to be picky but it is where I live smile

Yep. Hopefully, soop won't have to wear all her clothes to bed and pile it up with extra covers for too much longer!

Its a good start bags

Just seen a tweet from the Argyle and Bute council to say all roads in Kintyre are now open.

Bags Mon 25-Mar-13 22:14:24

All roads on Kintyre now open, and at least one of the affected schools reconnected to power supply. Progress.

This weather is ridiculous.
If we grannies told it to behave very sternly, do you think it would behave?
Granny power you know!

Poor things. One bag of coal - or one small shed, does not last long. Must be horrible.

NfkDumpling Mon 25-Mar-13 20:52:27

The amount of snow dump shown on the telly looks horrendous. We've no snow here in Norfolk - just a very strong bitterly cold lazy wind with teeth straight from Siberia.

DH was listening to Jeremy Vine at lunchtime and an elderly lady came on from Clachan, a village nearby to Soop. The lady's husband had managed to make it to the shop where he was able to buy some provisions....I don't think it was Mr soop, because the lady was listing all of the vegetables that her DH had been able to buy and I can't see soop blethering away like that - not about carrots and turnips etc! Anyway, she'd be more interested in whether he'd been able to lay his hands on some tuna for Rory! grin
One man down in Carradale, on the other side of the Kintyre peninsula has burned the contents of his garden shed that he didn't need. He's now starting on the shed itself.

I'm sure Soop has a coal fire, one of her neighbours dropped off a bag of coal the other day.

I was rather hoping that soop had a wood burner that pumped out lots of heat because that would be cosy.

number thanks grin

According to the BBC news page for Scotland, it could be weeks, rather than days, before all the power is reconnected in Kintyre and on Arran. I do so hope that Soop, Mr.Soop and Rory are all warm and OK.

numberplease Mon 25-Mar-13 17:00:24

I think it means b---dy cold!

Ella46 Mon 25-Mar-13 16:35:34

glass What's "nithering" please, never heard that one before? smile

numberplease Mon 25-Mar-13 16:12:24

Does anyone know what kind of heating Soop has? I hope it`s not electric. I don`t enjoy power cuts, but at least we`d have heating and cooking facilities.

glassortwo Mon 25-Mar-13 12:59:26

Saw the snow in Kintyre on the news poor soop & Mrsoop I hope they are keeping warm.
Its nithering here and has been for weeks now, but we dont have the snow this time.

Bright sunshine - what a treat!

Galen Mon 25-Mar-13 12:23:09

The temp here is zero. It's windy with a NE wind that goes through rather than round you!we had a few flakes of snow but it didn't settle!

j08 Mon 25-Mar-13 11:25:40

Our weather is just cold, grey, bleak, nothing. Bit sad making.

j08 Mon 25-Mar-13 11:24:54

Ella grin (and sympathy!)

j08 Mon 25-Mar-13 11:23:49

That's it granny-a Others seem to be getting the more exciting weather. But I do know it wouldn't be exciting for long!

whenim64 Mon 25-Mar-13 11:18:16

It's lovely here, just a few miles from ella and * anno*. My back garden is enclosed by fences and outhouses, so is actually warm, even though the wind is blowing the trees around sunshine

Ella46 Mon 25-Mar-13 11:12:59

It's lovely and sunny here, but the wind is whistling down my chimney despite the fact that I've blocked it off! Not funny, I look like a bag lady when I'm slobbing on the sofa!

annodomini Mon 25-Mar-13 11:09:30

The thermometer at my back door has climbed to 3 Celsius. Does that mean it's spring? grin
