Soop is cut off!

I've just had a phone call from Soop in snowy Kintyre - they have no power, haven't had for several days and Kintyre is completely cut off by snow.

They have a little single ring camping gas stove and Mr S managed to get to the local store yesterday so they have supplies. The telephone lines are down and there is no mobile signal. They have some type telephone which plugs straight into the line (?) which she called me on.

Soop sounds really well, in good spirits but misses her GNet fix. On the plus side she says her house is spotless!

Rory is doing well and is thoroughly spoiled by the sounds of things grin

Anyhoo Soop sends her best wishes to 'you lot' x

PS...although the sun is shining brightly, there are flurries of snowflakes drifting past the window. Every so often, we hear a low rumble, as heaps of snow slide off the roof and fall with a thud on the ground.

The local farmer; an elderly man, has worked tirelessly to take fodder to the sheep in the glen. I wonder how the newborn lambs are coping. He has a barn for the "orphans". I helped to bottle feed some of them, some time ago.

I cannot tell you how much I've missed my GN pals. Logging on this morning, gave me happy goose-bumps.
Yet another bag of chopped logs and kindling has been brought to our door. When I tried to offer payment, our friend replied...'Not on your nellie...' in a broad, lilting Scots accent. grin

Well, her underfloor heating relies on electricity. I don't know if it runs on oil, but it will need an electric pump even so. If she didn't have a fireplace, she'd be really stuck for warmth. A fireplace (we've installed a stove) was my first requirement when DH was looking for a house for us up here (I was still in Oxon). Second requirement: a primary school within walking distance.

We had our first power cut when we'd only been here three months and I've lost count of how many since. A fireplace is essential back'o'beyond.

We used to live in a hamlet about 9 miles out of town, and in February 1980 we were cut off by snow for 2 days. Our coal had just about run out because it was time for the coalman to deliver, so we searched the house and backyard for things to burn. We got rid of a lot of old shoes, and cleared an awful lot of twigs and other bits from the yard. When we finally got out, we got to the main road into town, and it was single lane traffic with passing places cut into the snow walls, which must have been 15 to 20 feet high. Never seen snow like it before or since.
I`m glad the roads at least are open in Kintyre, hopefully they`ll have power back on soon. Glad Soop`s not reliant upon electricity for heating.
