Our local magazine run an article about parking in the town. It said that as this was becoming such a problem all householders would be required to make their driveways available between the hours of 9.30 a.m.- 3.30 p.m. Householders would only be allowed to opt out in exceptional circumstances. It took me a few minutes !
Well, there was a lot less than had been anticipated. The spring water in the cress beds still flowed but a fair few of the wells had dried up. If I recall correctly, the winter made up for it. From the sublime to the ridiculous.
I started a job with a water authority on April 1st one year. The work was collecting data for a 5 year project that was due to end in the December. It involved travelling to certain areas in the county measuring the levels and flow rate of water. The year was 1976.
The sixties didn't start until about '64 -- I got married for the first time, and was carted off to Cornwall - which was lovely, but no place for a musician trying to make a living!
GNHQ has produced a corker. However, given that every time the subject of drugs comes up on the forums, it is quickly followed by umpteen gransnetters denying ever having tried any drugs, never mind inhaling, it seems unlikely that most members will understand and appreciate the humour.
