To many drunks around today.

Today there were several drunks on the street possibly because of the Grand National and I saw 1 being arrested as he was being abusive.
What they could do is introduce £20,000 fines for being drunk and disorderly.
As you have got to be rich these days to get drunk these people would not miss the money and it could be used to help with care fees.

em Hi! What about:

"Oh would some gift tae ithers be
To see myself as I see me."

grin

annodomini Sun 07-Apr-13 16:53:34

CCTV could be put to good use for that, em, if some of those silly young people (especially the girls) could be rounded up and shown the video.

Gracesmum - I was thinking along the lines of
'Oh wad some pow'r the giftie gie us
To see oorsels as ithers see us'!!

Have been lurking for only the last few days after lengthy absence but it didn't take long to form one or two new impressions. I am slightly concerned about the pomposity of some recent posts but don' t plan to get involved ( unless the wind-up conspiracy becomes irresistible). I'm more concerned that I may have lost track of several old friends with new names. I'll catch up. Just be patient with me if make an occasional faux pas!

annodomini Sun 07-Apr-13 16:15:28

em, good to hear from you. If you have, as I suspect, been lurking, you will know that any admonishment will slide off Frank like water off a duck's back. Makes you fear for the standards of the banking profession...no, wait, we've lost any illusions about them long ago. grin

(BetWeen my toes) - oh for an edit button!!

gracesmum Sun 07-Apr-13 15:58:36

em haven't heard from you for ages! Welcome back (if you have ever been away, not just lurking) Thank heavens for the benefits of a decent education eh?
OP could be an addition to the various Burns Supper addresses - coming somewhere between To the Haggis and To the Lassies.
*To many drunks*:

The chieftain o' the puddin race
Is sitting proudly in his place
But roond the table there's a space
Where many loons are aff their face.
My love is like a red, red, rose
The heather's soft beteen my toes
But here's tae those and such as those
Distinguished by a red, red noseI

I could see this becoming a tradition grin

Frank I dont think any one could forget you ,saying you are a friendly person ,grin

HUNTERF Sun 07-Apr-13 15:29:44

London

It was just friendly conversation when the pub was less busy.
I can't remember how we got on to the subject of them thinking I never drank alcohol.
They almost get ready to serve me coffee without me asking in the same way the cashiers at the leisure centre put in the code for the class I am attending as soon as they see me.
I wonder how they remember?.

Sorry Galen. Of course it is. I must have gone into a time warp.

Movedalot Sun 07-Apr-13 13:34:06

Oh, goodness me, Boldmere, that explains everything! Just so downmarket dahhhhhhhhhhhling.

Galen Sun 07-Apr-13 13:30:22

Don't be silly absent it's to give employment to the '^management levels^!

Why do people so often refer to those being treated in the NHS as a burden on it? Isn't that what it's for?

HUNTERF Sun 07-Apr-13 13:25:30

Movedalot

Don't worry. The pub is in Boldmere.
Mind you I was on the train from New Street and finished my journey in Lichfield last year in July on a Saturday afternoon.
A group of young men were singing Christmas Carols.
And elderly lady wanted to go and tell them to shut up and I warned her that it would only stir up trouble and they were not doing any harm even though I think they had a pint too many.

They got off at Four Oaks.

They did no harm to anybody on the train and I hope they just went home to sleep the drink off.

Frank you are truly a warm hearted and generous soul hmm

I don't begrudge people with sports injuries being treated on the NHS as they are trying to keep themselves healthy to try not to be a burden on the NHS,

Something which happened once was a lady was advised by her occupational health department at her workplace to go to a local leisure centre and to take up something like aerobics.
She lost a lot of weight but unfortunately she broke her ankle.
I agree she did take a risk and things went wrong as a once off but she is now a lot better and doing aerobics again so I don't begrudge my taxes in going for her treatment.

Oh dear what is Sutton Coldfield coming to? We have friends from Four Oaks coming this week, I will suggest they move away from this undesirable area. grin Now should I still offer them wine with dinner?[hmm)

I do drop in to a Weatherspoons for a coffee on a regular basis and I went there last night and spoke about the drunks to a member of staff I know.
She said that people tend to drink all day on Grand National Day and do not realise how much they have had.
She said she had refused to serve 2 people earlier in the day.
Oddly enough two of the staff thought I did not drink alcohol as I had never purchased any in that pub.
I did assure them I did drink alcohol at home and at the pub within walking distance of my home but not there as I was always driving after I visited that pub.

A commissioners decision states that you cannot have DLA for being alcoholic. Only if there are sequaele such as epilepsy or dementia.

Marelli Sun 07-Apr-13 12:36:48

Could well be, em! Perhaps Frank really did mean "A toast to many drunks"....("Here's tae us - wha's like us? No' many - and they're a' deid!")
wink

Wondering if this thread is slightly awry. After all Frank seems to have addressed his op to many drunks and not to gransnetters at all. It could of course be seen that he is commenting that there were too many drunks around. Surely such a wealthy and experienced man ( not to mention arrogant and patronising) wouldn't make such a basic mistake while conducting his mission to put us all right. Tut, tut Frank . Maybe you need to spend less time composing your pompous posts and a little more time on proofreading.
Why are intelligent and rational women encouraging his rants by participating? Or could it be (heaven forbid) that it's a nationwide conspiracy to wind him up???

Anne58 Sun 07-Apr-13 11:31:58

I can't see the connection between drunks on the street and the Grand National.

Greatnan Sun 07-Apr-13 11:27:41

And anyone with a sports injury? Or the overweight?
