Well I bet there will be a lot of parents happy tomorrow as the holidays are over. For once the weather has been in there favour. My grandsons have been good and bad. He was staying with me on Thursday night as his brothers were at a birthday party which he was to old. On Friday morning we got up and I asked what would he like to do just me and him. He was quiet for a second and said I don't know what I want to do as he never gets any time on his own. So we headed of into the unknown and we went to the garden centre and had some lunch he has a good appetite he had potato and leek soup which was gone before my eyes. He then went on to have steak pie and chips with bean again wolfed it down . When the waitress came to collect our empty plates she said it was nice to see my son eating so well. I shyly replyed I am grandma not mum made my day. So we had a look around to see what veggie we can see for our veggie plot when granddad comes home. His knowledge of veggie amazed me so proud I thought my heart would burst.

So to end our day we ended up in St Andrews had an ice cream crazy really because it was freezing. Lhara my wee lhaso apso was with us so we had a walk along the beach not for long as see felt the cold. My phone rings five minutes after the boys party ended where are you I piped up we are in the car she said ha ha. When you coming backed I answered when we are ready .

My grandsons face dropped as he thought our day was over poor we lamb because he knew when he did go back he was in big trouble because he had deleted his kindle back to factory settings . I felt so sorry for him that I told him to say sorry and take it on the chin. My youngest son said to him now that you have learnt to delete things you will now have to be clever and mend you mistakes.

He did say sorry so he is not allowed his kindle foe a week. Poor we soul he love reading so it's back to paper books for now. So on that note I think I have rattled on a bit but were would we be without the ups and downs of grandchildren .

So back to school hip hip hooray smile the silence is golden at least till 3.0 o'clock. Anne09smile

Sounds a really special day together – how lovely. I'm sure you will both treasure that time together. I thought when you deleted Kindle stuff, you could still access it if you wanted to but perhaps deleting back to factory setting are different.

Lovely story of your day out

Kindle stuff is stored somewhere in the ether and can be accessed by going into your Kindle account.

I'm envious of your trip to St Andrews. Did you get the ice cream at the wonderful Janetta's?

My GC are back tomorrow and we are doing the school run as well as looking after our two year old GD. It's the first time I am not going back myself after Easter, since I retired from teaching last Summer. I must have been on auto pilot today, because I turned off on the road towards my school, instead of going straight ahead towards the shops.

MaureenM I still find I 'work' to term times & I retired 2 years ago! I have done less over the last 2 weeks than I normally do because it is the holidays!

hope she enjoys it merlotgran

yogagran teachers have to be in school for 1295 hours /195 days per year. They have to have teaching contact for 190 days. The five other days were for training, preparation, administration etc. This has been the case for quite a while. I think it was Kenneth Baker who introduced this and in the process undermined professional contracts.
In my experience most teachers work way longer than this. I know PE teachers who argued that they could have all the summer term off as with all the after school matches/ Sat morning football etc they had racked up 1265 hours by Easter easily! I did once (1982) work with a teacher who put her coat on when the kids did at 3:30 and left straight away but in 35+ yrs she was the only one!
