Today I have been mainly Vol. 6

I have always liked this thread, so here I am resurrecting it!

Today I have mainly been eating, drinking and sleeping, then eating....

Such decadence! Lunchtime drinks at the Yacht club, watching the gaffer (DGD explained what it meant) racing and the sun glinting on the water, then home for a bite, then a snooze...what a life. How lovely today was.

Anno, I haven`t done the odd shoe thing, but my sister-in-law arrived for her daughter`s wedding in her slippers, all dolled up, she didn`t know until someone in the church pointed it out, and there was a mad dash home for shoes! Luckily they only lived just down the street.
Have spent part of this morning cancelling our holiday, due to my sciatica not being much better. No point in going if we can`t do the things we want to do, so will try to re-book at a later date.

annodomini Wed 05-Jun-13 15:52:02

number, what a shame to have to cancel your holiday. Are you getting any treatment for the sciatica? I know it can be very persistent.
My son's best man thought that shoes were covered in the suit hire package for the wedding and turned up in trainers. Fortunately, although they were a bit scruffy, at least they were black. I am now keeping those two pairs of sandals well apart.

Had a lovely wander round Bayeux this morning and saw the tapestry again, and the cathedral. Lovely early summer weather weather here!

It is, of course, D day anniversary tomorrow, and all the flags are out, especially on the beaches. We went the Airborne Division's museum at Pegasus bridge (Benouville) after lunch - another moving exhibition; we sat for a while in the garden there, listening to the birds and trying to imagine the hell of nearly seventy years ago.

Into Caen for dinner tonight, then le Touquet tomorrow. Well, Berck Plage!

Yes Anno, I`m being treated by the doctor. I`ve got painkillers (Zapain), also some patches, can`t remember their name, and Oromorph, a morphine solution, but nothing seems to work all that successfully. In fact, taking all 3 at once leaves me feeling wobbly and shaky, and a bit sick, so I`m trying to use either one or the other of the patches and the morphine.
Ariadne, your trip sounds interesting, I`d love to visit the wartime locations over there. I have a great-uncle who`s buried somewhere in France, killed in WW1.

noodles Wed 05-Jun-13 18:07:48

Hi numberplease I am so sorry that sciatica is giving you so much pain. I do hope the pain eases up very soon. ((()))

noodles Wed 05-Jun-13 18:15:50

numberplease Just re-read my post and I realise it sounds a bit creepy! To clarify... I have sciatica and can empathise with your pain, frustration, and lack of sleep. Take care.

Mamie Wed 05-Jun-13 18:33:43

Glad the sun is shining for you Ariadne. If you have time there is a very good Impressionist exhibition on at the Castle in Caen. There is also one in Le Havre and one in Rouen.

Ariadne Wed 05-Jun-13 20:45:04

Oh, thanks, Mamie! We hope to visit the castle before we leave, and the Exhibition sounds great.

number did you get my reply to your PM? Will post sciatica sheet if needed!

"today I have been mainly" ....driving for hours (just under 7) and the trips have uncovered my grumpy old woman side!
Why do people insist on speeding through small villages?! I am not obsessive on this subject, and have been known to go over the limit now and then on motorways ..... but aggressively sitting on my tail as I drove at 30, past a school for Pete's sake, and then overtaking literally in the middle of this small sleepy village and zooming off at approx 50 is just unreasonable and unpleasant!!

On the upside, the new fines for 'middle lane hoggers' seems to be having real effect. It is decades since I have seen so many people move over to the left lane, almost no slowcoaches just sitting in the centre clogging up the works, and (apart from high volume traffic points when it was the usual wall to wall 'clog') the outside lane stayed largely empty. Its a long time since I have thought driving any of the M6 was pleasant.....almost cured my grumpy!!

numberplease Wed 05-Jun-13 21:38:41

Thank you Noodles, I`m so fed up now, feel rotten, no appetite, but getting a teeny bit more sleep now that the cystitis has gone, but my leg wakes me up early still.
Ariadne, yes, thank you, I did get your pm, and I replied. Didn`t you get it? It did say message sent.

Tegan Wed 05-Jun-13 21:58:57

I know there's a reason for clamping down on middle lane hoggers but I hope they put as much effort into doing something about catching people that drive at 90 mph in the outside lane sad. And I hope even more that they do something about people driving whilst on the phone.

Galen Wed 05-Jun-13 21:59:09

It's horrible isnt it? I do sympathise. [flowers[{{hugs}}

kittylester Thu 06-Jun-13 07:11:10

flowers to everyone with sciatica - it's really grim.

I hope they do something about 'undertakers' on the roads, too!

LizG Thu 06-Jun-13 07:38:23

Today I have just realised what was meant by this thread thanks to 'inthefields' I thought it meant turning my life up to volume 6 and be doing something particularly exciting. Today I have been mainly even more stupid than normal grin

celebgran Thu 06-Jun-13 08:16:48

Tegan can't agree more about phone yet again saw woman yesterday chatting away is anyone ever stopped!

annodomini Thu 06-Jun-13 08:53:56

grin LizG. At that hour you can't possibly have had time to be stupid!

On the subject of phoning, I feel quite irritated about women who spend their pram-pushing time chatting on their hands-free phones. I notice that there's an increasing vogue for buggies that allow the baby to face the parent which is so much more sociable than the front-facing versions. But surely these are recommended so that the parent can communicate with the infant, not with someone miles away. OK - I am a judgemental granny!

inthefields Thu 06-Jun-13 09:01:54

LizG ...oh, do tell smile
I bet I can 'see your stupid' and 'raise you'.....by several levels of dim!!

Another wonderful day! We attended a D Day remembrance service, to which we'd been invited, at the Chateau (of William the Conqueror) here in Caen. There was even a piper on the ramparts to add to the atmosphere, the Last Post played, and the sunshine. Perfect.

We then drove up to the beaches, ending up at Juno Beach at Bernieres sur mer, and somehow got involved in celebrations with the Canadian veterans and other representatives. The flags of the Allies line the sea fronts, and each little town has such a story to tell. And the sun shone!

Nelliemoser Thu 06-Jun-13 22:36:38

I went to see DD who wanted a shopping day with another pair of hands to mind DGS. We had a lovely girly day at a large shopping Mall.

I spent most of the time with DGS in his push chair trying to get him to have a nap by wheeling him round and round inside the shops while DD was trying on clothes. He just wouldn't give in and shut his eyes. He was either very vocally babbling away to himself, or grizzling in that typical very tired baby way.
Then, when a shop assistant who stopped to ask him why he was crying he turned on the full charm and started smiling. My 8 month old grandson is a most dreadful flirt!
Can't you just tell I am still a newish Nanna!

Had a mare of a day with the computer. Internet service provider locked me out this morning so could not access e-mails. DH looked up help line phone number on google and rang and asked for assistance, turned out it was a scam number advertised on google and they asked for a large sum of money and were in the process of taking over my computer when DH twigged and turned it off. I have had to change passwords and reset absolutely everything. I will be very careful in future even 0800 numbers can be scams angry

Today I've mostly been resting after a busy afternoon and evening yesterday - but I did find the time to book a holiday in the sun as a second honeymoon. I don't usually like too much heat, but having been to this resort last year I know I can manage the temperature by carefully planning my time. Nice walks, a swimming pool and my Kindle for me and sailing, windsurfing, cycling and lots of other activities for the WM. We'll be flying out on the same date as we left for our honeymoon 27 years ago and it will be our first holiday abroad, alone, since then. grin

Enjoying being alive. The weather is perfect. We've been for a walk around Tarbert harbour. Beautiful reflections of masts in the clear water. Took photos. Will upload a few tomorrow. Came home, watched a thrilling tennis semi-final between Rafa and Novak. Ate a Magnum dark choc ice cream. Screamed with excitement as the match progressed. Drank a pot of tea. Jumped up and down with excitement when Rafa finally won. Totally exhausted. John pottering in the garden. Rory couldn't care less [as usual].

whenim64 Fri 07-Jun-13 17:39:29

Your day sounds wonderful soop. Mine's been great so far, sorry I missed the tennis today, though.

I've been wandering along woody paths and by streams, doing a bit for a national wildflower survey with my friend, on the border with Derbyshire. Then we went for afternoon tea, sat in the sunshine and enjoyed a lovely hour or so listening to birds and rippling water smile

Off out again soon, for an evening at my sister's and a takeaway. grin
