I have always liked this thread, so here I am resurrecting it!

Today I have mainly been eating, drinking and sleeping, then eating....

Such decadence! Lunchtime drinks at the Yacht club, watching the gaffer (DGD explained what it meant) racing and the sun glinting on the water, then home for a bite, then a snooze...what a life. How lovely today was.

I've just spoken to my sister who's staying with my mum for a few days on a brief visit back from the U.S. She told me she's discovered that mum has had diarrhea for a MONTH and has lost a massive amount of weight. My poor sister has spent two days sorting out medication, GP and hospital visits. It's just four days since I spoke to my mum and not a mention was made of this. Why? Because I would have made her go and see the doctor she says. Arrgh!

Today - being awake since 3.00, as I am occasionally! But off back to bed now, methinks.

Started the day making a quick traybake before the labouring in the garden starts. Managed to knock over a jar of anchovies in the larder, lid wasn't on properly. Ingredients and self covered in anchovy oil. More haste less speed. Grrr...

Mamie Fri 17-May-13 08:53:49

Luckily I had left the ipad with the recipe on the kitchen table. How do you keep the ipad clean in the kitchen? Now there's a first-world problem. hmm

Nelliemoser Fri 17-May-13 09:06:39

Oh Mamie I bet that smells!
I have to own up to not putting lids on properly at times.
Pop the Ipad in a polythene freezer bag.
Don't then go and put it in the freezer though! wink

You can buy LCD screen protectors for Ipads etc that can protect them I have one for the LCD screen of a camera. Google I pad screen protectors.

Last night I had a very bizarre dream where I was planning to go off traveling by myself. I had just retired but had forgotten to tell my employers.
At the airport having bought a ticket for £1,000s and I was waiting for a plane to OZ but realised I hadn't prepared anything to take with me. No insurance, no malaria protection stuff or anything. I think I just had a couple of carrier bags with me.

I am still puzzling about where that particular idea came from. hmm

DD did that for a year but that was 8 yrs ago.

whenim64 Fri 17-May-13 09:36:26

Nellie smile

That's just reminded e of a weird dream I had a couple of nights ago. I was placed in a room at the surgery to take my own blood pressure. In order to give a low reading, I placed a cooked prawn in its shell between my arm and the cuff. Result 150/60! Try it, it obviously works grin

kittylester Fri 17-May-13 09:39:53

Ella46 Fri 17-May-13 09:40:03

Just uploaded 3 new photos of grandchildren and one of Dh looking particularly good blush. (Why do they not appear together confused)

Well now, I got home late last night after a very good week with Greatnan in France. Very comfortable in her apartment and very well fed! The weather was variable but we had a wonderful cable car trip up the Aiguille du Midi in the Mt Blanc Massif. There was cloud and we wondered if it would be worthwhile, but a skier who was queuing ahead of us assured us that it would be clear at the top. And it was! There wasn't a cloud in the sky. We were surrounded by spectacular snow covered peaks. It was quite moving to think we were looking out at the roof of Europe! On Monday we went under Mt Blanc through the tunnel to Italy. It was warm and sunny and for a change I was able to discard my fleece. Aosta has excellent Roman remains which cost nothing to visit. Greatnan on a previous visit had found a superb small hotel high up on the north side of the Aosta Valley, with a spectacular view of the mountains on the south side; comfy beds and great food too. We had a walk on Tuesday morning on a track from the hotel to a point where Mt Blanc was visible. The Alpine flowers were wonderful. Need I say that Greatnan was out before breakfast reccy-ing this walk to see if it was OK for me - less experienced and much less fit than she is. No problem!
So I have had a great holiday and feel very reluctant to get back to normal - whatever that means!

kittylester Fri 17-May-13 11:19:33

Sounds as though you had a fabulous time Anno Brings back lovely memories of taking the children on camping holidays in that area although, when we got to Aosta it was Sunday and it was closed!! I expect times have changed in the past 30 years.

I should have said my phots are of Bertie, Persie and the kissing cousins, Hattie and Ellie grin Big boy Seb refuses to have his photo taken. grin

Really lovely photos kitty.I'm doing stacks of ironing...in the garden..not wasting that precious sunshine sunshine

annodomini Fri 17-May-13 12:08:23

kitty - lovely pictures. They make me wish (almost) that we still had babies and toddlers in the family, but it's not going to happen. sad

kittylester Fri 17-May-13 19:51:57

I've made an enormous chocolate cake, for DGD2's party in London and thought about packing to go away on Sunday. grin

I also took a plant to my friend as an excuse to see how she really is after her chemo a couple of weeks ago. She's not felt up to visitors since then but had her feet done today and has a hair appointment next week. sunshine

Ella46 Fri 17-May-13 21:48:15

Great photos kitty, your dd's wedding smile is just like her dad smile

inthefields Fri 17-May-13 21:48:57

Today I have mainly been .....
collapsed in a chair in the garden recovering from having DD and 4 month old DGS here for 5 days.

What a lovely lovely time it was .....

and how totally kn******d am I?!

Nelliemoser Fri 17-May-13 22:55:06

I have just found the photos and movies I took of DGS on Monday. I have a new compact camera and I am impressed with the results. Sometime I need to sit down and really learn how to use it, some good weather to take photos in and some good views to take.

Are there any other GNrs e out there who want to take good photos instead of snaps. I need all the advice I can get

I am quite proud of the ones I have posted on GN even if taking them did involve me rolling on the floor next to DGS.

Grannyknot Sat 18-May-13 09:03:11

Having been away for work for 3 days (trains/suitcases/platforms/staircases plus being "on" all the time!) I have the "oh the joy of the house to myself" feeling and am off for a long and lazy pedicure. The woman I go to has magic hands and does a foot massage with a citrus scrub that leaves me delirious smile and boy do my tired old feet need a pampering.

Grannyknot Sat 18-May-13 09:05:27

kitty lovely photos. smile anno your holiday sounds wonderful sunshine

Sook Sat 18-May-13 09:33:09

anno wondered where you had gone glad you enjoyed your trip.

kitty enjoy the party [cake] and have a lovely holiday sunshine

annodomini Sat 18-May-13 10:29:36

kitty, have fun. There's no better sign of a successful party than small children covered in chocolate cake grin.

kittylester Sat 18-May-13 11:11:37

The really best bit is - I make the cake, covered in chocolate and all sorts of other really nice, sugary things - therefore I'm a goody, but someone else has to clean it up and cope with the sugar rush and come down!! I knew there were advantages to being a Ma!! grin

Mamie Sat 18-May-13 11:41:37

Got up early and went to market. Treated ourselves to a live lobster from the fish stall for dinner and bought plants for tubs. Came back and planted geraniums, petunias and verveine in shades of pink, white and a touch of purple. Planted courgettes and checked on all the seedlings in the potting shed. OH cutting turf and building the last half dozen new raised beds.

Town And Country Planning [Scotland] ...
Planning Permission given to build wee hoos on the orchard plot. Bravo, Mr soop. You are a star.
Now all we need is a buyer for our home. grin
