I have always liked this thread, so here I am resurrecting it!

Today I have mainly been eating, drinking and sleeping, then eating....

Such decadence! Lunchtime drinks at the Yacht club, watching the gaffer (DGD explained what it meant) racing and the sun glinting on the water, then home for a bite, then a snooze...what a life. How lovely today was.

soop good news for you. Post a link to your house for sale ad? My husband has fantasies of living in Scotland ...smile.

soop Sat 18-May-13 12:43:52

Grannyknot...the house is in the GN for sale section. Sorry, I don't know how to post a link. Elegran may be able to point you in the right direction. We live a hundred paces from the Sound of Kintyre. The view is beautiful - sea and islands of the Inner Hebrides. Close to a super wee village of friendly folk. smile

Mamie I love the sound of your tubs. I had to google Verveine, Ialways find it hard to get the watering right if I have geraniums and petunias in together though. I have four large tubs that SIL prepared and has left ready and waiting for me
. I seem to have been tidying up and putting washing on all morning, today is bright with a cold wind which is much better thanthe cloud and rain of yesterday. SiL and GS finished relining the pool, watched it being refilled and then insisted on making sure they were first in. The temperature was about 18 degrees! If I ever learn to post photos they will be there. Off out to lunch now.

Mamie Sat 18-May-13 12:57:15

I think verveine is verbena in English. I love them, but so do the slugs!

Elegran Sat 18-May-13 13:23:52

Link for Soop and Grannyknot Soop's house

Soop - who is the estate agent? If you blue his website address you could post that. too.

Grannyknot Sat 18-May-13 13:58:05

Thanks elegran and Soop. It looks lovely. Are there any golf courses nearby? wink not for me! Or is that a silly question in Scotland ...

Galen Sat 18-May-13 14:09:20

I want! But too far away!

soop Sat 18-May-13 15:29:10

Elegran You are a star. The Estate agent is Scott Woods at Woods Property, Tarbert, ARGYLL smile

soop Sat 18-May-13 15:36:23

Grannyknot There is a super golf course at Macrihanish...beside the sea. We can recommend the members. Well, those we know very well because they have become close friends. Mr soop and I do not play golf.

soop Sat 18-May-13 16:16:17

I've had a lovely day. Will wish you all a pleasant evening [when it arrives] and goodbye for now. smile moon

dustyangel Sat 18-May-13 16:31:39

Gosh, I've only Just got back from lunch, I thought it was still afternoon.
I want your house as well Soop...... but in warmer climes! actually I think we have an older and colder version. We will soon transfer to our summer quarters, even smaller, although I prefer it as it lighter and brighter. I live in hope of affording our own wee hoos, maybe a wooden one.

Mishap Sat 18-May-13 17:02:00

What have I been doing? - like many of us, sitting around and coughing! But, like soop, I have a lovely place to do my coughing in, so have been lying in the conservatory listening to the birds and rejoicing in the wonderful view of green hills - makes up for a lot!

dustyangel Sat 18-May-13 17:03:14

I would have five large tubs awaiting planting if it wasn't for the verbena that survived from last year. The slugs don't seem to like ours, but they certainly like almost everything else.

Been on a falconry day and held a Golden Eagle [wow] and flew a Hawk and an Owl. Learned so much about falconry and how many falconry terms are part of our language [think Lucy Worsley should make a programme about it] but am now struggling to remember half of it. Mantle, for example, is a falconry term that was first used to describe a fire surround by Shakespeare [it's falconry term meaning the way a bird will shield it's prey with it's wings when it's eating it]. And, for many years you could only have certain birds depending on your standing in society [only a King could have an eagle] and to break those rules could mean a huge fine or even death shock. [no bird for me then]

Tegan Sat 18-May-13 18:54:20

There was another term which I heard as 'subaru' which means the ability to work out a set number of objects without having to count them and then realising if one them is then missing; supposedly only humans and birds of prey have this ability. [I'm sorry, I'm going to get a bit boring about this but I'm fascinated by what I've heard today]. Also a 'mews' refers to a row of buildings that was once a place where birds of prey were kept; they then tended to become stables when guns were invented and hunting with birds was less common, and eventually became dwelling houses.

I took GD1 out to lunch. Two puds for the price of one. Well, I couldn't let her eat hers alone, could I?

Ariadne Sat 18-May-13 19:04:18

We are in Fareham with DS1 , DDiL and their two small boys. We have shopped (me and DDiL) been to a cricket match ( the boys) played, read stories and are soon to have dinner. Blissfully! Re small children covered in chocolate cake - I brought one with me, and DGS3 excels in covering himself in it, as he does, indeed, with any food put in front of him. It is an exercise in eating and demolishing at the same time.

Just a brief visit - home tomorrow afternoon, but worth every moment!

harrigran Sat 18-May-13 19:36:26

Had a stay at home today. DH and I are still ill with the most recent cough. Have just looked at news online and our area has had a lot of flooding so good not to be out driving.

Tegan Sat 18-May-13 19:37:20

Just going to plant myself on the sofa for Eurovision [I LOVE Eurovision; it's my one weakness].

Galen Sat 18-May-13 20:39:36

Lordie, lordie. Aren't toddlers tiring? DGD has just gone to bed! DD and partner have settled on a house to put an offer in on after much arguement and grumpiness! I would have snapped it up. She doesn't like the bathroom suite and the decor!hmm
You may remember the vendor of the house they were buying pulled out so they are currently homeless and staying with his parents and its all very fraught!
Catch up tomorrow!

kittylester Sat 18-May-13 20:42:22

Back from the party and the DGC were indeed covered in chocolate cake and soil from the garden - a great time had by all.
sunshine
Just had asupper, Nigella Lamb with anchovies and thyme since you ask and absolutely delicious and quick!! Opened a bottle of champagne, as we are officially on holiday now, and might just have Ariadne's virus tomorrow! But the sea air will clear that I'm sure.grin

Now to watch Eurovision - it's much better after some bubbles. smile

Wonderful visit to BRB apart from a dreadful man who couldn't keep still. Total sell out. There is civilization oop north. Facade was very sparky but Take Five was the hit of the evening. Only one curtain call and they legged off. I suppose they are all so young and have to be in bed early or else they wanted to savour the delights of the Slug and Lettuce with Durhams skimpily dressed young.

I'm having a nice day today remembering what a nice day I had yesterday a warm day for a change. Got on the bus to Inverness 1and a half hours there and the same coming back. And the scenery was so pretty daffodils everywhere yellow broom all the rape seed in full bloom a yellow picture and the mountains still capped with snow it is lovely. A good day shopping at M&S a good breakfast at Debenhams all in all very satisfying I enjoy it because I don't do it very often now. Looking forward to the next time.

Galen Tue 21-May-13 16:24:46

Have been throwing a load of veg into the slow cooker with garlic, ginger, chilli, rice wine and soy sauce! Hope it's edible!hmm

annodomini Tue 21-May-13 16:44:52

I've been messing about with Facebook, trying to share my photos of my holiday in the Alps. I am hoping that I have now cracked it!
