Today I have been mainly Vol. 6

I have always liked this thread, so here I am resurrecting it!

Today I have mainly been eating, drinking and sleeping, then eating....

Such decadence! Lunchtime drinks at the Yacht club, watching the gaffer (DGD explained what it meant) racing and the sun glinting on the water, then home for a bite, then a snooze...what a life. How lovely today was.

I've just had a long transatlantic conversation with my sister. This may seem a small thing to some, but it was particularly special for many reasons. smile

Tegan Tue 21-May-13 19:14:02

Just received an email [which I'm not going to open] which says..Tegan, you can still look stylish when you're camping. Like how[???]..sort of want to open it now...

smile from me too, *butty.

I've been feeling fed up with catarrh! Hum-dinger of a cold is still getting to me after far too long. Started in my chest (two days of tear-jerking pain) and is now in my sinuses. I wouldn't mind if it weren't for the headaches. Piriton helps, eventually, after a large dose (!). Blergh.

Bags it sounds like you're in pain with that dratted catarrhy-sinussy thing. My daughter had it last week and ended up with antibiotics because of the pain. I hope it goes soon. Look after yourself! flowers

Sinus pain is AWFUL, Bags...lots of good get-well vibes from sunny Kintyre. smile

HURRAH!!!
I've just claimed my state pension. I was really worried that I wouldn't qualify for the full amount, but I do!!! And I get my winter fuel allowance this year as well.Hopefully I'll get a bus pass, too. I've been worried about this for ages. Am sooo chuffed. Will probably carry on working though for a while because work suddenly doesn't seem so bad knowing that I don't HAVE to do it. Happy days.

After 3 weeks of practically doing nothing around the house, due to bad sciatica down my right thigh, then my whole leg, this morning I decided to give the living room a good once over, was so fed up with it looking such a tip. But I`m paying for it now, my legs are so painful, I could cry.
Bags, sinuses are murder when they play up, hope you`re feeling better soon.
Been having the giggles on another forum, someone was talking about her husband, who`d had an operation a few days ago, she said he`d been for a long walk, and she hoped he hadn`t overdone it, but instead of typing walk, she`d accidentally substituted the l with an n!

Bags Wed 22-May-13 16:30:03

Slightly better today, thank you Peeps, and not rattling quite so much with pills and potions, especially after a two-hour nap this morning soon after breakfast. Then I went out in the very fresh but sunny air and did some garden work, including sowing some cornflower seeds from 2009 that I found. I wonder if they'll take?

Tegan Wed 22-May-13 16:39:18

number grin....

Today, I had a panic attack on the ramparts of Framlingham Castle. Don't quite know what I was thinking going up there - I don't do heights! shockblush

Tegan Wed 22-May-13 16:45:11

Same here; I'm not too good with multi storey car parks either [you know, the open ones]. I also get claustrophobia.

Mamie Wed 22-May-13 16:48:25

Butty if the catarrh is thick I have had something called (I think) Exomuc (I kid you not) from the Pharmacy. It did thin it down a bit.

Tegan Wed 22-May-13 16:48:28

Did you watch She Wolves; this weekends programme was about the power struggle when Edward died and it mentioned Framlingham Castle?

whenim64 Wed 22-May-13 16:49:17

Tegan good news about your pension. No more paying National Inusrance when you get it, either. Doesn't half make a difference! smile

Tegan Wed 22-May-13 16:53:55

Thank goodness I have a small works pension as well, though or I don't know what I would have lived on. Retirement seemed a long way off when I divorced my husband but, bless him, he gave me one of his pensions as part of the settlement. Didn't realise how important that was at the time.

Been to see StarTrek this afternoon, absolutely brilliant (if you're a trekkie)
Came out to glorious sunshine and a freezing wind sunshine

First thing - well, 9.15 - dentist. He discovered a cracked filling and a chipped tooth, so another appointment had to be made. I swear I keep his family alive. Hair appointment at 10.30; U3A French conversation group, a bit late for 11am; lunch with friend at 12.30 - not a 'fast' day, luckily, because local Italian does a very more-ish Italian trifle. Brought friend back for brew and chat then when she went we noticed that my neighbour's washing line had snapped, so friend and another neighbour helped me to rescue the bedding! Then the neighbour came in for yet another brew. Now I am waiting for next door neighbour to collect her washing. And tonight is the book group. I NEVER have such a full diary!

Butty Wed 22-May-13 18:00:33

Mamie Thanks for the tip. I'll keep that in mind.

So delighted" Our (Rotary) Vocational Training Team (VTT) is now back, today, from Livangeli Primary School in KwaUluNatal, where they have been working to help improve teaching of English as an addititional language and introduce modern teaching methods in this school in a very poor township. They are excited, sad, and so glad that they did it. Can't wait to meet them again!

I will post some photos later. Some of you will remember the irrigation projects last year? This was our Rotary project this year; we'll go out in January (summer there!) to evaluate. The team has a blog:

Today I received my delivery from Sainsbury's - when I came to unpack it I discovered that the 5 bananas I had ordered had been mistyped - and I now have something like 50 bananas in my kitchen... That'll teach me to check my order more carefully in future! That's if I don't succumb to banana poisoning...
