Are we going to be seeing more of Charles and Camilla now the Queen seems to be scaling back her engagements?

I thought Camilla looked suitably regal at the State Opening of Parliament

jings, I think the crossed fingers approach is a good one.

Bags Mon 20-May-13 13:18:27

Range of views, merlot smile

merlotgran Mon 20-May-13 13:13:51

Funnily enough, I don't feel in the least bit pestered by Prince Charles, Bags and actually seeing him on the telly rather than just reading his 'utterances' makes me like him all the more.

j08 Mon 20-May-13 13:09:11

no she doesn't. #toolazy

j08 Mon 20-May-13 13:08:54

googles partisan.

j08 Mon 20-May-13 13:08:19

What the F--- was that?! shock

Or they could cross their fingers behind their backs.

j08 Mon 20-May-13 13:07:46

OPr they ould cross their finhgers behind their backs.

Bags Mon 20-May-13 13:03:54

Sorry, meant jings, not soop.

Bags Mon 20-May-13 13:03:18

I don't have a TV, aka, so I only read about it. I don't exactly worry, but if he aspires to be the monarch, he should be less partisan. It's just a philosophical issue, as is having a monarchy at all. Worth discussing if only to find our therange of views that exist.

Thatis still included in the Cub promise, soop. I don't make a big deal of it; they can interpret it how they like, if at all at eight years old, which I think unlikely! Meanwhile in the background, there is a movement to allow a non-believer promise. There will be a vote on the issue soon.

j08 Mon 20-May-13 11:44:41

Bags do the cubs still promise "to do my duty to God and the Queen"? How do you manage with that? grin

Aka Mon 20-May-13 07:26:13

So why worry bags? Everybody is telling us how we should live, dress, eat, etc. some people even watch TV programmes just for this reason. I never actually come on contact with any royalty so it's only through the media that I hear about them or other 'celebrities'. Turn off or turn over confused

Bags Mon 20-May-13 05:50:00

I see. So we have to leave Charles alone to get on with his life but he's allowed to pester us with his "utterances" about how we should live our lives. Righto. Got it. hmm

I will only say that I like the Royal family. I do think they generate income for the country from tourism and I know Charles raises a great deal of money from the Duchy of Cornwall rather than the taxpayer. As far as I am aware the Queen pays more tax than Google and Amazon and she works very hard for a woman of her age! Having read a number of biographies of Diana I could add a few choice comments but will not speak ill of the dead. Charles & Camilla seem happy and well suited so just leave them alone to get on with their lives.

Diana would not have been killed if she had worn a seat belt. Security doesn't come into it, even my 6 year old grandson knows you don't get into a car without putting on a seat belt.
I never know why people are so keen for Charles to step down in favour of William. Suppose the Queen died tomorrow - I should imagine being King is the last thing William would want at the moment.

merlotgran Sun 19-May-13 20:00:59

Exactly.

The Prince of Wales's wife is de facto the Princess of Wales as well as the Duchess of Cornwall. It was considered diplomatic not to use the first title in the light of the previous marriage. When (if) he becomes king, she will, de facto, be the Queen Consort just like the Queen Mother was, whatever she is called.

Dara Sun 19-May-13 19:20:27

Prince Philip, as the husband of the Queen is known as the Duke of Edinburgh. Surely it follows if Charles becomes King, Camilla would keep her current title of the Duchess of Cornwall. I don't think she should become our Queen, somehow.

celebgran Sun 19-May-13 19:07:02

Yes it was very sad she started off in love but apparently discovered very soon about 3rd person.
Merlot gran I felt as moth to 2 heirs and no more at fault in divorce than Charles she should not have lost the hrh protection imo

Eloethan Sun 19-May-13 18:20:34

When Diana got married she was 20 - and, by all accounts, a very naive and inexperienced 20. Charles was 32 and had had several women "friends" - which at the time the media encouraged and applauded. Whether by design or accident, Charles's relationship with Camilla resumed after both she and he had married.

Diana was certainly no saint but, whatever may be thought of her later conduct, she had received lessons from two masters of deception.

merlotgran Sun 19-May-13 18:14:36

Diana's protection was no longer the British Government's responsibility. She was a guest of the Fayed's and they should have provided whatever security was necessary....which they didn't.

Lilygran Sun 19-May-13 17:58:35

And Diana put it about a bit, by her own account!

Anniebach Sun 19-May-13 17:57:35

Was it not hypocritical of Diana to tell the country there were three in her marriage yet she had no problem with being the third in other womens marriages ?

Lilygran Sun 19-May-13 17:57:33

I'd be surprised if investigations weren't carried out into Philip, even though he was a cousin!

Eloethan Sun 19-May-13 17:33:57

Is the way Camilla behaved any worse than the way Charles behaved?

celebgran Sun 19-May-13 17:32:51

Well said eloethan! I felt Diana was the wronged one yet she was stripped of hrh and maybe old never have been killed if she had proper protection that night.

I have little interest in royals now.
