I have a sore back and a favourite cushion. I don't have servants but DH or any other member of the family would be only too happy to carry it for me. They wouldn't dare refuse.

The other stuff is just exaggerated nonsense and I don't expect the heir to the throne to turn up in an M&S suit.

I could name quite a few celebs who run fleets of cars and they don't generate anything like the employment that Prince Charles does.

My hens are laying well at the moment and I have a surplus. I might just boil four at tea time and pick out the best one...the dogs can eat the others thereby saving some money on Winalot!

Oh no Aka No "inside information" required for this one, it is quite clear for all to see. (well not the man applying the pile cream obviously that would be a step too far)

I fully appreciate that one should always have "ones man" on hand to carry ones cushion at all times.

In the fifth and seventh photos of the link merlot put up of The State Opening of Parliament Charles' hands look very swollen. Could that be caused by his idle hands.

As I've already said, he can't carry his cushion because he needs both hands to hold his ears back when it's windy!

Quite right Gillybob of course he should carry his own cushion. What's to stop him tucking it under one arm on state visits, etc. aftervall he only needs one hand for working the crowd. Or better still he could put it in a shoulder bag thus freeing up both hands for all that handshaking. It might set a new trend in man bags

Oh so boiling 4 eggs to get one good one, running an Aston Martin, several Range Rovers, Audis and Jaguars (all at the same time) , boiling his vegetables in mineral water and his obscenely priced suits all make him absolutely in touch with reality and just an average Joe, do they merlotgran ?

Not to mention the bloody cushion that his "man" has to carry around for him (for his piles?) He probably rubs the cream in for him too!

I know Eloethan I think I must have had my old romantic head on when I started to feel fond of the Queen! It was all the jubilee celebrations that made me come over like someone from another age, tugging my forelock and thinking 'Gawd bless you ma'am'. Soon came down to earth again.

gillybob, I've read the outdated list of fun things about Prince Charles and frankly can't see anything to poke fun at - even the points you've highlighted.

I agree with you re the funeral nightowl but what makes you think any of the other royals would have behaved differently - they are all part of the establishment.

Oh dear I wish I hadn't said that now. I don't want to reopen a discussion that's better left. It's because she went to a certain persons's funeral and I saw that as a deliberately provocative and political act. I thought the queen had enough years of experience behind her to understand how her actions would be viewed. That's it. I sincerely do not want to reopen that discussion and I respect anyone's right to have a different opinion about the person in question.

Off to bury my head in the sofa now.

Actually, if any of that list is true, it quite endears me to him. I love eccentric people. I don't much like his predilection for hunting and shooting defenceless animals but otherwise I rather like him. And Camilla seems like a good laugh. I said earlier I had lost all respect for the lot of them but I might just make an exception for those two. Oh and Princess Anne because she works hard and rejected titles for her children. This time last year I had a lot of goodwill towards the Queen but that's gone for good now

Atheist here (in case you hadn't noticed ). I'm not anti-royalist; I just like taking the piss. They are wonderful targets, especially Charles. It's part of the job.

I do think it would be nice, however, if we could have a nominal head of state position which wasn't hereditary – that bit is anachronistic – but I'm not sure there is a better solution just at the moment. Lizzie is a good egg. Not so sure about Charles. That's the worry.

William and Kate seem pleasant and Harry is a laugh, as is his grandad.

So, overall, good entertainment value really

Personally I don't think so Lilygran. It is one thing to say you do not believe in some "mysterious man in the sky" and quite another to say you do not believe that one family should live in the absolute lap of luxury for their entire life, (paid for by everyone else) just by sheer accident of birth.

I wonder if there is a connection between atheism and anti-royalist sentiments?
