Just think everybody, in around 3 weeks time it will be the longest day and it will be steadily downhill from then.

Sweater on and heating on for an hour earlier , the house seems to stay warm enough after an hour..

Ana Wed 29-May-13 21:35:42

Making do with a hot water bottle and thermals.

Today I not only turned the heating off, but turned the cold air blower on!!! It will probably be the only time this year of course. hmm

Ana Sun 26-May-13 18:28:45

Yes indeed! wink

Haven't needed the heating on today (yet!) but I too live with someone who doesn't seem to feel the cold - "you're not cold, are you?" He insists it is summer and therefore is in shorts and shirt; shades of his military career, I think. Summer began on 1st May, you see.

However, the thermostat is tweakable, as you say, ana even if only one person is doing the upward tweaking!

Ana Sun 26-May-13 17:02:55

We 'tweak' our thermostat, too, kitty! One or other of us will say "It's getting a bit chilly, shall I tweak?" grin

Been out in the garden cleaning the pots and enjoying the sun. It's starting to get a bit parky now so the thermostat will have to be tweaked after dinner.

We have granite walls which keep warm when they are warm but take quite a bit of getting warm.

goldengirl Sun 26-May-13 15:51:27

Yes - and the bill came yesterday shock

jennycockerspaniel Sun 26-May-13 15:45:13

Yes my hands are always cold ,takes me ages to get warm We have a stove and have a fire on at night for water and heat and radiator through the day if needed My OH doesnt feel the cold Stephen in Tshirt me in snuggy blankets

Charleygirl Sun 26-May-13 14:34:10

I still need the heating on in the evening to take the chill off the room so that I can enjoy TV. The thermostat turns it off when it has reached the required temperature. I am dreading the next bill.
I have the loft floored and the requisite amount of floor insulation (I have forgotten what it is called). Each radiator has a thermostatic valve fitted.
The walls have cavity wall insulation, I have solar panels to heat the water only, thick lined curtains at the windows + double glazing. Apart from retiring to bed for the winter months, what more can I do?

Staying in a hotel in Cornwall and nearly froze to death last night. There is an extra blanket, but I was too tired to wake up properly and dig it out. This morning I noticed the heating was on, so think someone complained of the cold temperature. Hope tonight will be warmer, but I'm still putting the extra blanket on. Brrr!

Elizabeth1 Sun 26-May-13 09:31:06

Many "discussions" in our house about the heating. It's brrrrrrr freezing "why are the radiators off " It's too hot in here "why are the radiators on" on/off on/off Must learn to use the regulator - perhaps another day (yawn) wink

salamander Sun 26-May-13 09:31:03

Heating on for sure however the thermostat hasn't kicked in today so must be warmer (quite unusual for a B/H weekend)!
I always hanker for warmer climes so the winter UK weather does me no good at all......

Happy holiday Gally.

Hunt Sat 25-May-13 23:15:00

That's why I so love the fuel allowance as I can say to my husband who thinks the heating should be down or off, ''I'm paying for this bit!''

annodomini Sat 25-May-13 22:30:07

Enjoy your holiday, Gally. sunshine

Gally Sat 25-May-13 21:43:26

Not today, it's been 20* here in sunny Fife. Off to Portugal in the morning so it was a dry run for real sun sunshine. Have turned the thermostat down to 10* to keep things ticking over in case there should be a return of winter in June wink

ps Sat 25-May-13 20:58:41

My heating is on and has been since mid October last year. I have turned the thermostat down today however as it has been reasonably warm 15°C.
