DH and I just agreed it's b****y cold.

I refuse to put the heating on in May!!
Out come the layers.

Mine was on yesterday evening and this morning, too. Much better weather now though, (in Fife). smile

Yes I have, it's really cold and horrible so I've forced my husband to put it on. My 3 year old granddaughter was with us here the other day and started talking about what she wanted for Christmas, I said "that's a long time away it's in the middle of winter", she replied "but it is the middle of winter!" Couldn't really argue with that!

We've lit the stove. The heating still comes on for a little while each morning. This is normal for May for us. It was a lovely day today but it soon cools off at night. There are usually a few weeks in July and August wehn we don't need any heating, but that's all, and it can be very cool during those months as well.

I don't care what the calendar says - if it's cold, we put the heating on!
OH did comment today that our heating bill is going to be a lot higher this quarter than it was last year.

Have had the gas fire on and I am still using my electric blanket!

FlicketyB Fri 24-May-13 20:22:52

Ours is controlled entirely by the thermostat, there is no on/off switch. By now the temperature is generally too high for it to come on, we do not run it at a very high temperature anyway but it is still coming on night and morning and today we actually advanced it to come on after lunch, the outside temperature was down to 7C. Weather forecaster said today's temperature hit the average for January.

Mine has never gone off!

Grandmanorm Fri 24-May-13 20:35:47

Neither has ours, Galen.

yogagran Fri 24-May-13 20:44:35

We've got the stove alight again this evening and my electric blanket will be on later.
It's damp, dull and depressing weather and I'm fed up with wearing winter clothes sad

I've just had an email from Scottish Power to say that due to increased usage, our payment has gone up to £202 per month! Yes, that's £202!!! See me huddled in a woolly blanket!

Mishap Fri 24-May-13 20:57:05

Yup - north wind here and hacking cough - heating essential.

gracesmum Fri 24-May-13 20:59:42

Like the rest - I think I turned it off for a total 0f 2 days at the beginning of the month - and today it's been on all day! Shudder to think what the bills will be.sad

NannaAnna Fri 24-May-13 21:09:14

£202 a MONTH hummingbird???
Surely not? I'd have a heart attack!!

petra Fri 24-May-13 21:10:01

Still using electric blanket as well.

Deedaa Fri 24-May-13 21:11:51

Ours has hardly been off so far. I have to use it a lot as my husband feels the cold so much now - but I've been really chilly too!

Galen Fri 24-May-13 21:15:39

Mine went up to £230!
I argued! They agreed!
Back to £200

mrshat Fri 24-May-13 21:29:46

Yup, heating on today, it's not been off very often so far. Will we ever have summer? hmm

betsysgran Fri 24-May-13 21:39:00

Hummingbird/Galen DH and I changed providers just over a year ago and have managed to save approx. £200 this year. Moved from Scottish Gas and Scottish Power. Their annual increases were extortionate. Won't give the name as I'm not sure of GN POLICY but we found them by trawling the net. They are a net provider but also on the phone with very helpful staff.

tanith Fri 24-May-13 21:39:56

Yep mines been on for a couple of hours I was freezing... our bill went up from £74 to £92 a month but that's dual fuel..

numberplease Fri 24-May-13 21:54:54

We don`t have central heating, but the fire is switched on, has been on all day. Bet it`ll be cold in bed again!

dustyangel Fri 24-May-13 21:57:49

Yup, me too. I hope it makes you all feel better, that even in the south of Portugal, this evening we need a radiator on to keep the temperature above 20 degrees. The daytime temps. have risen to 24 or so for the last couple of days but we have a very old house that holds the damp and cold and there has been an awful lot of that this year. AND I've had the electric blanket on as well....and bed socks. blush
I think it probably is much warmer for people staying in hotels or apartments though.

Galen Fri 24-May-13 21:59:18

On comparison EDF seem as good as any!
This is quite a large house.

Galen Fri 24-May-13 22:00:03

Mines dual fuel as well

Forzanonna Fri 24-May-13 22:01:18

Yep - mine's been on for a couple of hours in the evening. Hate being cold in the house. DH is away so had socks on in bed last night shock
