Men in skirts?

In Kenya, the Swahili men at the Coast wore kikois, like sarongs, but usually made of cheerfully checked cotton. When a crowd of us went down there on holiday, the men of the party happily abandoned their shorts and put on the local dress and didn't look any more or less sexy than they were up country!

Must say I have never looked at a young man in a sarong and thought there was anything wrong with his legs.
Skirts for men pretty popular in some of the Pacific islands. Sometimes in pinstripe with a shirt and tie. Sat next to a very large gent on a plane once who was wearing a skirt. Embellished by a sort of raffia mat tied round his considerable equator. For him it was a good look and probably a lot more comfy than trousers.

Clothing is such a powerful and emotive thing!

Men in skirts, women in veils, skirts too short /long, sexy/staid clothes, fashionable/unfashionable.. they all carry a message or so we are led to believe!

Saw a program on BBC2 I player about tartan.......interesting about how a lot of what is accepted as 'fact' is actually a Victorian construct. Tellingly 20Cth soldiers who had to wear them as part of their uniform said that they were pretty useless at keeping them warm. However, their enemies were quite unhinged by the prospect of troops in 'skirts' puts me in mind of the classic 'Up the Khyber' incident.

DH's certainly are. They really would look like two pipe cleaners dangling from a lampshade...

Not sure why they would want to. Trousers are far more comfy and practical. Can't say I'm particularly keen on kilts. Most mens legs are best covered up.

As I wear trousers/jeans all the time, I say let men wear what they like, although David Beckham got plenty of stick when he wore a skirt!

Why not indeed! We women can be such hypocrites sometimes - we want all the choices but are not prepared to give men the choice too. Still look down at dads who become housefathers, etc.

Sensible people, those Sewedish train drivers. Everyone used to wear skirt-like garments before hose and trousers were invented.

Most men look better in a kilt than in trousers, I think.

We are so sexist in our attitudes to clothes. We need to get over it.

A bit off the subject but we have a man who we see every week in Tesco doing his shopping and he always wears a skirt/dress , which is fine by me but he isn't dressed up as a woman ie: wig, make up, high heels etc he's just a middle aged man (short back and sides haircut) in a skirt... I often wonder what his 'back' story is.

As long as they don't try wearing pencil skirts! I rather like a man in a kilt o can't see why not...
