Year nearly half way through.

Time seems to have gone very quick since I have had my first early retirement and come back to Birmingham.
A lot has changed for example my father passing away and becoming a granddad 4 times over and getting another job which lasted just under 5 years before being retired from that one.
Andie and Dougal have come in to our lives and they are both moving on in age.

We have already booked our Christmas lunch.

Time for all Gransnetters to start saving for Christmas.

Surely if the year begins in January the year is already halfway through. There are only 12 months in the year and July is seventh one.

There are 183 days 19 hours and 19 minutes of 2013 left which is just over half as there are 365 days in a year.

Anyone who mentions the 'C' word before October at the earliest deserves to be banished from Gransnet. GNHQ take note, please!

It feels like we're on the downward slope to me - OH and I are trying to sort out a summer holiday and it looks like we might have to wait until September - that's autumn in my book! I'm still waiting for summer to begin here...it's been a very odd year so far...

Please don't mention Cxxxxxxxxxxxxx, I might start to cry!!! [cry]

I want to enjoy lots of things before I even start to think about Christmas Frank... live in the moment for goodness sake.

Nelliemoser Mon 01-Jul-13 10:01:14

Frank please stop mentioning the C word! I am stressed enough at present.
Its probably a women thing to get stressed about this as most of us have been doing most of the work for this event for 40odd years.

merlotgran Mon 01-Jul-13 10:11:34

This is definitely a thread to avoid shock

Sook Mon 01-Jul-13 10:39:26

I hate the C season and definitely don't need a reminder of the stressful event thank you very much.

Agreed Nellie my DH loves it but then he doesn't contribute to it in any way.

kittylester Mon 01-Jul-13 12:11:37

Christmas is NOT to be mentioned before the Loughborough Street Fair which is the second Thursday in November. This has been a rule [at least in our house] for many years. And, like Nellie I am stressed enough at the momont anyway. grin

The "C" word should not be mentioned until the 1st of December! I bet Frank has all his pressies bought, wrapped and ready to be placed under the "C" tree already.

FlicketyB Tue 02-Jul-13 07:10:01

It is not just Frank. I picked up a magazine this weekend, which advertised a C********craft fair, to be held at the end of July!

HUNTERF Tue 02-Jul-13 07:57:11

You may laugh but I have had an e mail from my occupational pension scheme giving us the date we will be paid our pension in December and also telling us that the normal payment date will change in January 2014.
This is the third change since I have retired.
I heard there were a lot of complaints when they changed it before people did not have time to change their standing order / direct debit dates or budget for the change when we were told about 6 weeks before the change but I am wondering if people will say they have forgotten about this notice by Christmas.

No doubt you will remind them given half a chance,I find it very insulting to be told "to start saving for Christmas" do you think you are the only person on GN to have an good occupational pension (be that of The London kind).

glammanana

I think there are a lot of very rich people on Gransnet.

There may well be, but they don't boast about it! There some who have been fortunate enough to be able to plan for their future, but equally others whose circumstances are very different, for whom life has been tough, and for whom planning for this week is enough of a challenge, never mind planning for C********.

But we are all strong, intelligent people, and will plan when we feel like it and if we can, thank you.

HUNTERF Tue 02-Jul-13 09:18:51

And the year will be half way through at noon today.

Frank

Ariadne Tue 02-Jul-13 09:21:55

Ana Tue 02-Jul-13 17:03:06

Frank! smile

Nonu Tue 02-Jul-13 17:35:43

I just do not bother thinking about C. till Mr N has had his birthday in November .

Cannot understand why some people have to plan so far ahead , enjoy life today.

Yesterday is History
Tommorrow is a mystery
Today is a gift
Use it well .

You listening Hunter F ??

Ariadne Tue 02-Jul-13 17:39:06

Nonu probably not! grin
