Can I be the first to predict the name? I think they will go with traditional.
Alice for a girl.
George for a boy.

Historian lady on the telly last night said James is a bit of an unlucky name. I quite like George [although it would be nice if he was named after Kate's miner ancestor wink]. I wonder what he was called?

Rehash that! James-Phillip-Charles-Michael

Another vote for George here.

Arthur or Alfred?

George?

Well, if the Australian attitude to sport was the same in England, the lad's names would start with Christopher Joseph, after the sporting heroes at the time of his birth.

In reality, I think James would be nice. I've got one myself!!

vampirequeen - fabulous and totally believable. I'm ashamed to say that when working on a specialist unit supporting children and families where child abuse was an issue, we ran an informal book on the name of the year. Certain names would ( we predicted) result in lengthy social work involvement. The ones at the top of your list, and the initials at the bottom appeared on our lists. I began to dread referrals with names like Destiny and similar. My lovely cousin lived in a hippy commune on the moors in Devon. His first child was named Sunshine, and is now a 40 year old accountant called Daniel. Even my cousin now laughs when he describes the tribe of hippies going to the maternity unit to support the birth of the latest baby, with a name like Dandelion or Happydays ...... Good luck to Kate, the birth of your first baby is enough of an event without having the world's media camped on your doorstep.

I kid you not I have taught children with these names

DD2 is excited to know the names so she knows which ones to avoid for her baby, due in October. As she said 'they'll all be called Gladys or Alf, if that's what they choose!' grin

I like harrigran's selection of girls names but for boys I would have Michael in the mix somewhere, after Kate's father.

harrigran Mon 22-Jul-13 08:35:03

Victoria, Elizabeth, Charlotte, Louise.
George, Albert, Charles, William.

Kate is in labour, so we shall soon know!

I don't think Diana will be chosen as the first name, second or third I think

annodomini Fri 12-Jul-13 16:09:54

I'm with George for a boy. Let's hope the end of all this speculation is in sight! hmm

Ian42 Fri 12-Jul-13 16:05:33

If a boy Ian.

If a girl Diana.

Ana Fri 12-Jul-13 15:57:44

I agree that Diana could be in amongst the names for a girl, but surely it would be seen as too controversial for the first name, and would only invite comparisons throughout the poor girl's life!

GrannyGear Fri 12-Jul-13 15:51:29

My money's on Diana Elizabeth Catherine - after Grandma, great grandma and mum. For a boy - but it won't be a boy - John Phillip Charles.

Just suppose Kate has twins! That would be fun. Have there been any royal twins? I don't know of any.

Murphymycat Fri 12-Jul-13 14:37:33

I like Margaret Elizabeth but I'm biased!

I think Diana will feature somewhere if a girl. How about Guinevere? She was reputedly a queen

Sulis Fri 12-Jul-13 13:52:46

I think the new baby could be Victoria Charlotte if a girl and Edward Phillip if a boy.

Anniebach Fri 12-Jul-13 09:29:50

Biker, do you think , if a girl , she will be princess of Wales? It is a title only through marriage

Biker Fri 12-Jul-13 05:38:14

As a future Prince/Princess of Wales can we have at least one Welsh name?
Dafydd or Seren (Star) would be good
