What's that arcade game called where all the little heads pop out and you are supposed to bash them down with a rubber mallet?
Never mind. Time to moon

Aka Sun 07-Jul-13 09:46:25

Ah ha! hmm
I'm delighted to find you are still talking to me. But very confused as to why my last post provoked the reaction it did?
However, I'm off into the garden so would invite you to PM me so we can continue this discussion away from open forum, if you wish.

Ana Sun 07-Jul-13 10:04:45

Jingl, don't forget me! smile

Bags Sun 07-Jul-13 10:12:09

Who's Marion Bartoli? I thought the rude customer was called Jo Somebody.

j08 Sun 07-Jul-13 10:13:49

I totally agree with that post of Aka' s!

Sorry Ana!

Greatnan Sun 07-Jul-13 10:14:38

Bags, she is a French tennis player and won the Women's singles yesterday. John Inverdale made a very rude and sexist remark about her looks and many people are complaining to the BBC about him. It has nothing whatsoever to do with this thread!

j08 Sun 07-Jul-13 10:15:13

Don't worry about it Bags. grin

j08 Sun 07-Jul-13 10:18:17

Oh there is a lot more to it than John Inverdale' s remark. (Did you see the mention of Twitter GN?) confused

I was inviting posters to make comparisons. Perhaps thereby getting some perspective.

j08 Sun 07-Jul-13 10:19:43

Actually GN, most people would have been able to get their head round that.

merlotgran Sun 07-Jul-13 10:26:12

I'd like to see a customer try and talk on their mobile phone in Aldi. They throw the shopping at you so quickly you'd need to be an octopus to manage a phone call as well.

Greatnan Sun 07-Jul-13 13:33:44

I don't look at twitter - I have more than enough to keep my happy with Gransnet and three ex-pat forums!
Plus Facebook.

Maggiemaybe Sun 07-Jul-13 13:46:10

Blimey, there are some vicious comments out there about Bartoli - as usual on t'interweb, turn up a stone and the creepy-crawlies rush out. It's worrying to think that many of them will pass as "normal" people in the real world.

Inverdale's reaction to the criticism of him is a bit odd. A simple sorry would have sufficed (she seems a very commonsense sort and wasn't a bit fazed by his remark), but no, he has to compound the slip by saying "She is an incredible role model for people who aren't born with all the attributes of natural athletes". What are they then - blonde locks, shiny teeth and Barbie legs?

petallus Sun 07-Jul-13 14:00:31

I've just read the article in the Mail and now I know the full details I consider the check out person was amazingly rude, even bullying.

absent Sun 07-Jul-13 20:47:10

There is really no excuse for rudeness - whether in a supermarket or on Gransnet.

Nonu Sun 07-Jul-13 21:03:53

OH , That is soooooooooooo right , some people think they can say anything under the guise of "Being Right "

bluebell Sun 07-Jul-13 21:13:04

Absolutely right Nonuconfused

Nonu Sun 07-Jul-13 21:19:00

Gosh , bluebell. wine for me and thee

I've enjoyed reading this thread but haven't contributed before as I thought that pretty much everything that could be said about the inappropriate use of mobiles had been said. How wrong was I! I was talking to someone today who had been interviewing for an office job in his small business. One woman received a text during her interview - "Hang on a sec", she said, and not only read the text but answered it! shockshock

Bags Tue 09-Jul-13 06:22:57

I think that takes the biscuit, back. I bet she wondered why she couldn't seem to get a job.

petallus Tue 09-Jul-13 09:09:41

I was seeing my gp yesterday when as I sat describing my symptoms I noticed an intermittant tinkly noise. After a few minutes gp said 'is that you or me?'. My phone was off so it was him. He took the phone out of his jacket pocket, looked, said it was his daughter and terminated the call.

We both grinned. It's the modern world!

annodomini Tue 09-Jul-13 09:34:02

I had a nice peaceful lunch with GD last week because she was so skint that her phone provider had cut her off! grin

whenim64 Tue 09-Jul-13 09:54:52

anno grin

littlegran Tue 09-Jul-13 11:05:27

when i worked in my local hospital wrvs coffe shop there were notices on the wall saying mobile phones must not be used, i always wondered why as there was no equipment that they would interfere with. time has moved on.

Ian42 Fri 12-Jul-13 16:03:34

Mobile phones should be only used in an emergency while outside your living space. What did people do before mobile phones were invented? The checkout girl was right.

Nonu Fri 12-Jul-13 16:05:49

Used payphones or waited till they got home .

seemed to work .
